The Boston Public Market provides an ideal setting for photography enthusiasts, featuring a striking interior with dramatic soaring ceilings and distinctive vintage exterior architecture located at 100 Hanover Street, Boston, MA 02108. The site also includes adjacent historic buildings, some dating back to previous centuries. Your Digital Photo Academy instructor will share professional techniques for capturing the rich, saturated colors displayed in the vibrant fruits and flower arrangements throughout the market, all captured in natural ambient lighting. Create studies focusing on close-up details of flowers and fruits, or compose broader views reminiscent of impressionistic paintings by the renowned master Monet of France. You will also have opportunities to photograph compelling environmental portraits, capturing performers and vendors who bring their goods to market each day.
Master the techniques for capturing dynamic action by focusing your lens on chefs conducting food demonstrations or documenting the energy of crowds surrounding the colorful vendor displays. Your instructor will maintain a small group size to facilitate personal connection and relationship-building while sharing composition strategies and photographic techniques. You will receive guidance on creating more flattering portraits of both subjects and models, including advice on flattering poses, optimal angles, effective lighting techniques, and professional posing suggestions.
Meeting Location: Information Desk just inside the main entrance at Congress and Hanover streets. Join the group at the Hub in the center of the Hall. Beantown Pastrami restaurant is located on the first floor, approximately 40 feet from the information desk.
Each Composition in the Field class begins with an instructional talk led by one of our experienced photographers, followed by a guided exploration of a visually compelling location chosen from a diverse range of photogenic sites across more than twenty cities served by Digital Photo Academy. Opportunities range from urban street photography and remarkable interior spaces to farmers' markets, botanical gardens, zoos, sweeping landscapes, and numerous other engaging subjects. The instructors provide a curated selection of sample photographs taken in these varied locations by both students and instructors across numerous cities throughout the United States and Canada.
You will enjoy the three-hour session while learning to compose strategic photographs, capture more compelling images of the location, and develop a foundation for enhancing your photographs in the future; these skills apply whether you are traveling, attending special events, or photographing in everyday situations.
