Description
What you'll learn in this portrait class:
Come paint from a live model in this class which explores different ways of portraying the figure in paint, taking inspiration from masterpieces. Each class will have a short talk, followed by a sustained model pose for the remaining duration. We will be exploring different art movements and approaches, experimenting with technique and intention.
Please bring any painting materials that you feel comfortable with. This class is open to oil, acrylic, watercolor and gouache- with an emphasis on oil.
What To Bring
Below is the type of materials recommended to bring if working in oil paint. If working in another media, similar colors and considerations but tailored to your media.
Suggested materials:
- 16x20 Grey Matters disposable palette
- Brushes: at least two small, two medium, and two large brushes of either a filbert or flat type (oil and acrylic, choose bristle hairs if you like to see brush strokes, soft synthetic if you like smoother paintings)
- Painting medium (for folks using oils or water soluble oilsI recommend Gamblin’s Solvent Free gel)
- Odorless mineral spirits (for folks using oils)
- Silicoil jar (for folks using oils)
- Rags or paper towels
- Canvas or panels or watercolor paper- somewhere in the 9x12 to 16x20 range of size
Paint colors:
- titanium white
- cadmium yellow medium
- cadmium lemon
- yellow ochre
- cadmium red light or pyrrole red (Winsor red)
- permanent alizarin crimson
- burnt sienna
- burnt umber
- ultramarine blue
- Pthalo Blue (Winsor blue green shade)
- ivory black
Refund Policy
When class/workshop enrollment is below the minimum three days prior to the first day of class, the class may be cancelled. If there is a cancellation, we will contact registered students at least 2 days before the start of the class/workshop by email or by phone.
We will offer students the option to transfer into another class or receive a full refund for the amount paid.
Classes are not refunded due to failure to attend class, planned absences, minor illnesses, or vacations.
If you drop a class:
- If you drop a class at least 8 business days before it starts, you will receive a 100% refund minus a $20 administrative fee.
- If you drop a class between 7 to 2 business days before it starts, there are no refunds. At this point students may receive a class credit if the school is able to replace your seat with another student before the start of class. If this is not possible, crediting will not be offered.
- If you drop a class on or after the class start date, no refunds or credits are possible.
Transfers:
- If you transfer to from one class to another class of equal value or more, there is no administrative fee.
- Otherwise an admin fee will be charged for transfers.
In any event where a customer wants to cancel their enrollment and is eligible for a full refund, a 5% processing fee will be deducted from the refund amount.
