Cancellation Policy

Bookings are non-refundable – but they may be transferred to another group prior to your scheduled event, subject to the requirements outlined below. If you need to change your date, please provide as much notice as possible — ideally at least one week. If you want to give your rebooking credit to another group, we will honor that. We ask that, if you need to rebook, you do so within one year of the original booking.

Rebooking or Transfer Notice Requirements:

If you request to postpone or transfer your event with fewer than 72 hours’ notice, a rebooking premium of $150 per 20 participants will apply, calculated proportionally (e.g., $225 for 30 participants, $300 for 40, etc.). A minimum fee of $150 will apply for groups smaller than 20 participants.

Participants may be added to your booking at any time prior to the event. Additional charges will apply based on the current rate per participant, due before the event begins.

We plan and staff our events based on the confirmed participant count provided in advance, so all final numbers must be established prior to the event. We do not conduct headcounts on-site or adjust the final cost based on actual attendance. Once an event has taken place, no portion of the booking is transferrable or eligible for future credit.

Outdoor events may be moved indoors for any reason, including inclement weather, pending availability. We request at least 24 hours’ notice for any change of hunt selection. If a museum hunt is selected, museum admission is sold separately.

In the event of a force majeure — such as a public transportation shutdown, city-wide emergency, or government-issued order advising people to stay home — your event will be rescheduled to a mutually agreed future date.

Description

Explore Herald Square and 34th Street through team clues about the area's history and architecture.

Join our Heroes of Herald Square scavenger hunt, where teams race across historic 34th Street, stopping at Macy's, the Empire State Building, landmark hotels, Penn Station, the James Farley Post Office, and more. Along the way, teams solve clues that illuminate the fascinating history and unexpected details woven into every building and public space in this district.

Herald Square has been at the center of New York's newspaper culture, retail history, and architectural ambition for more than a century. It was home to the New York Herald and the Tribune, and its French Renaissance hotels and hidden public sculptures reward anyone who knows how to look for them.

Your adventure begins in front of Macy's. In a race against time and rival teams, you will:

  • Discover the statues and artworks of Herald Square and learn about the artists and foundries that created them
  • Explore the eccentric world of James Gordon Bennett, founder of the New York Herald, including his famous menagerie of exotic animals
  • Identify the public figures most responsible for shaping the Herald Square area into what it is today
  • Uncover the history and hidden features of Macy's, including surprising fixtures tucked within the store itself
  • Visit the hotel that played a pivotal role in one of baseball's most consequential moments
  • Learn the stories of the visionaries who built the Empire State Building and the organizations involved in its construction
  • Find and heed the timeless wisdom of the founder of the New-York Tribune
  • Search Hotel Martinique for a striking mural depicting Broadway's lesser-known stories and characters
  • Follow the path of Thomas Edison's first projected moving picture
  • Trace the contributions of a groundbreaking Yugoslav inventor whose work quietly underlies much of modern technology
  • Investigate the James A. Farley Post Office for war memorials and architectural details worth seeing
  • And much more throughout the district

Our Heroes of Herald Square scavenger hunt is a test of strategy, collaboration, and communication. Teams work together to crack clues, solve puzzles, and outmaneuver their competition.

How it works: We organize, staff, and oversee the entire hunt. You simply arrive and dive into the adventure. Our staff manages everything in person from start to finish.

Booking: select a date, time, and participant count. Upon confirmation, you are on the calendar, and we stay in contact through the event date.

Before the hunt, our team contacts your group leader to confirm details. On the day, we are on-site early, ready to gather participants and form teams before the adventure begins. Teams then race, strategize, and search for answers across the district, with our staff available throughout for support and guidance.

All event logistics are managed by our experienced on-site team from arrival through the final score tally. Here is a brief summary of the hunt rules teams will receive at the start of the event:

  • Teams must stay together - no splitting up to cover more ground.
  • The hunt has a two-hour maximum runtime; early finishers are welcome to call it done before time expires.
  • Clues can be tackled in any order - reading ahead is a smart strategy.
  • Photo and video challenges require team phones and are scored at the conclusion of the event.
  • The team with the most points wins; ties are broken by order of arrival at the designated endpoint.
  • The phrase puzzle on the final page must be completed - it is essential for a winning score.

As the hunt concludes, teams reconvene at the endpoint for scoring, winner announcements, and prizes. We remain available afterward to address questions and discuss the clues.

The hunt was a great experience for our team. The instructions were clear, there were plenty of clues to uncover, and we learned a lot of interesting things along the way. It was more challenging than we expected, which made it all the more rewarding.
