What you'll learn in this composition class:

Digital Photography Live In-the-Field Workshop @ Fisherman's Wharf

Each Composition in the Field class begins with a talk with one of our experienced instructors, and then you and your fellow students take a stroll through one of a variety of photogenic locales (in any of the 20+ cities the DPA encapsulates).  There is street photography, magnificent interiors, farmers markets, zoos, landscapes, and more, photos of which are included within. These photos are a mix of student and instructor images in many different venues and cities across the United States and Canada.

You will have fun in the three hour session, learn to shoot strategically, get more interesting photos of the event, and walk away with a foundation to improve your photographs in the future, whether you’re traveling, or at a birthday party and everywhere in between.

There are tons of things to do at Fisherman’s Wharf everyday, from shopping to riding the cable cars, to playing with sea lions. But Fisherman’s Wharf is more than just an entertainment spot; it is also a great location to capture breathtaking photographs of the water and the characters who frequent it. Join your Digital Photo Academy instructor as you explore all that Fisherman’s Wharf has to offer through your camera lens.

Photographing people you don’t know and capturing the atmospheres of stores and restaurants can be challenging and nerve-racking, but this shoot will give you the skills and confidence you need to shoot wherever and whomever you wish.

During the shoot, you will learn the secrets of the trade from a professional photographer, including new compositional techniques and how to gain permission from strangers to photograph them, how to capture images of fleeting subjects, and how to bring out the colors of nature and architecture.

We will meet  at 2801 Jones St at Jefferson, in front of the Starbucks, San Francisco, CA 94133. Please bring your DSLR or another type of camera that you use, a fully-charged battery, and the camera supplies that you can carry. You should also be sure to dress for the weather, wear comfortable shoes, and carry a bottle of water.

Please note – if a class must be cancelled due to weather or other circumstances beyond our control we will be happy to work with you to reschedule.  If you should need to cancel and require a new class date, contact us. A $25 transfer fee will be imposed without a 3 day notice before the scheduled class.
