Description
What you'll learn in this oil painting class:
Learn how to paint expressively using oil paint and photo references of Aspen in the winter time with snow and mountains.
This class will have instructor demos/lessons and 1-on-1 guidance. Oil painting fundamentals are covered in every session: studio materials, color, value, atmospheric perspective, cropping photo references, blending, and layering.
By the end of the course, students will have completed a painting of the Aspen landscape.
Topics covered in the "Aspen in Winter" session:
- snow
- mountains
- trees in the distance
Perfect for those new to oil paint or realism.
Bring any oil paint supplies you have at home—even if it's different from the list below. Suggestions for re-stocking / upgrading will be covered in class.
Required Materials: (come prepared with quality paper towels, like Blue Shop Towels or Viva)
- 1 stretched canvas or primed wood panel, any small to medium size will do
- 12x16 pad of palette paper (gray is helpful)
- 1 metal palette knife (Liquitex Freestyle #14 or #15 in the small size is a great option)
- 1 medium sampler set (Gamblin or Chelsea Classical)
- Gamblin 1980 Introductory Oil Paint Set - 8 colors with bonus solvent-free gel and bonus painting panel
- Small jars for palette cups (glass or stainless steel)
- Brush Cleaning Jar (glass or stainless steel...$1.50 James Coffee glass jars with cozie is perfect; they're next door to AO3)
- Princeton Aspen 6500 5pc Brush Set (on Amazon)
- Gamsol will be provided in class
Optional Materials:
- Pizza boxes for transporting wet paintings
- 20x30 1/2" Foam Board (found at Michaels for $8; to tape references above/next to canvases)
- Color Wheel & Value Scale
- any additional bristle brushes you want to use
Important Note: We want to keep this oil painting course odorless and as toxic/solvent-free as possible for health purposes. Turpentine and Mineral Spirits will not be allowed.
Refund Policy
Cancelled Class Policy
Occasionally the school may find it necessary to cancel a course or workshop due to scheduling conflicts or instructor cancellation. If this occurs, registered students will be contacted and will be refunded the full course tuition and any additional fees.
Refund Policy
If something should come up and you are unable to attend your class/workshop, please give us 3 business days notice prior to the start of the class/workshop for a refund less 5% cancellation fee.
After 3 business days, no refunds will be given.
Make Up Policy
Life happens and you may miss a class. You will be allowed to make up one class from the session.
Please request a “make up slip” that is active for the next 30 days. DO NOT just show up to redeem a make up slip as full classes will have NO CHOICE but to turn away the make up student if there are no available tables/space.
You may make up your class in any class that has room, it does not need to be the class that you originally took.
Make ups are limited to one class per session.
In any event where a customer wants to cancel their enrollment and is eligible for a full refund, a 5% processing fee will be deducted from the refund amount.
