What you'll learn in this kids art camp class:

Campers will learn the basics of surface design through printing, dyeing, felting, sewing, drawing and design. Campers explore stencils, block printing, and photo emulsion processes, as well as about resist and immersion dyeing with both natural + synthetic dyes. Fabrics created are used toward their completely unique final projects!

Through daily exposure to textile media, kids explore new avenues of creativity, improve their dexterity, and make new friends while learning about historical and contemporary use of the fiber arts. In addition to structured class and craft time there is daily free play and playground visits, weather permitting.

Campers visit TAC daily, for project-based classes inspired by their weekly field trip to a current textile related exhibition in New York.  Each weekly session concludes on Friday afternoon with an Open House where family and friends are invited to view projects on display!

A note about location: Textile Arts Center official camp site locations are within walking distance from our facilities. Each day, campers visit TAC for their Class Times for full access to our equipment and materials. Drop off/Pick up, and Craft Time are held at the official camp sites.

Brooklyn's 2014 tentative camp location is at the Berkeley Carroll School in Park Slope at 712 Carroll Street, Brooklyn, NY 11215

Attended: Leather Apparel Sewing

I thought the teacher was great and overall it was a good experience. I was disappointed in the facilities. It's not ideal to sew leather on home sewing machines, especially ones that aren't in proper working condition. Students had to share sewing machines.

Attended: Leather Working

The instructor Cat was very informative and gave excellent instruction and problem solving in leather working. We were able to learn several techniques that were applicable in many ways in a short amount of time. It would be helpful if there was the next level of class offered after this - an intermediate to advanced to work on techniques and to learn more solutions.

Attended: Felting 101 with STATE

A fabulous course! Adrienne was so helpful, patient, encouraging, inspiring. She showed us multiple techniques and we each made 4 different items, like table runners, kindle covers, bowls, bags, and wall hangings. She even helped me do a nuno felted runner when I asked for it, even though she didn't plan on doing any nuno felting. She provided all the materials and the workspace was roomy and comfortable. It was a great fun way to spend the weekend. Many thanks Adrienne, Marta

Attended: Leather Working - Weekend Intensive

This course was really fantastic. I learned a lot of skills is such a short amount of time and I really enjoyed every second of it. Kat, the instructor, is phenomenal. She gave individualized attention to each person and really was knowledgable and helpful. I would recommend this course to anyone who wants to learn how to make small leather goods, or just wants to learn a new skill.

Attended: Leather Working - Weekend Intensive

The class was great! We learned lots of great techniques and each had as much one-on-one time with Kat (the teacher) as we needed. We were also able to modify the preplanned projects to fit our preferences. I came out of the class with three piece I actually like so I would say it was a success. If you are signing up (which you should) I would recommend bringing a couple yards of leather, as there was a limited supply of large pieces. All leather-working tools were provided as well as a list of places to get everything we need to do it ourselves in the future.
