It was well done. My only suggestion is that she start out getting people ready I.e. prepare and position yarn. I started out behind because my yarn got tangled. Cara was great when I raised my hand she back tracked for me. I would definitely take a class again.

Morrison was great. She emailed me after I enrolled to ask if I had intended to take her class in seam treatments and I told her I had not because I am a very beginner sewer. However, she provided me with an individual lesson and focused on what types of activities I like to do. I will be enrolling in her longer course on how to sew using my sewing machine and am so glad that I decided to finally get some formal lessons. Thanks for allowing me the opportunity to do that!

Discover the Best Knitting Classes in Houston

Knitting could be the perfect new hobby for you if you live in Houston and you like the idea of crafting something with your hands. Generally, knitting is defined as a series of loops of yarn that are continuously interlinked or knotted together to create a finished product. Knitting is a unique craft and a useful skill that only requires minimal materials to get started, which are needles and yarn. Recently, knitted artifacts were found in Egypt and date back to the 5th century CE, fueling the theory that knitting is one of the oldest forms of making clothes. It is also a great way to flex your creative muscles, regardless of the type of knitting that you want to learn.

Why You Should Learn Knitting in Houston

You may benefit from living in Houston and knowing how to knit in several different ways. If you are looking for a way to relieve stress from work or school, it is theorized that knitting actually improves your mental and physical health over time. It also gives you something to do with your hands during your free time. You may also feel good when you make something tangible, including an end product that you could gift to a friend or family member.

Both locally and around the globe, there is a large community of people who love knitting. Once you understand the basics of knitting, it is easy to research local knitting clubs, groups, events, or organizations that will allow you to meet others that like knitting too. Additionally, knitting is thought to improve our sociability, which makes it more than just a fun hobby.

While you might not think so at first, knitting is a valuable skill that may open up new career opportunities. If you get good at knitting, you may be able to open your own small business that sells your knitted crafts. A part-time business repairing and mending certain types of clothing could be another option for using your knitting skills to make money.

In-Person Knitting Classes in Houston

Are you interested in learning knitting in an in-person environment in Houston? CourseHorse can help you book in-person classes in the area. For example, Sewing Knits 101 is held at The Little Sewing Room in Spring, TX. This class will teach you how to identify different knit types and stretch ratios, along with cutting knits for optimal stretch benefits. You will also learn cutting and attaching rib to necklines in a variety of ways, t-shirt construction, and more. Another The Little Sewing Room offering is Sewing 101, which is for people who have never sewed but want to try it out. You will get started sewing your own garments over four sessions, with each session being project oriented so you leave with your completed piece.

For the more experienced sewer or knitter there is Sewing 201, an intermediate class from The Little Sewing Room that builds on skills learned in Sewing 101 and is designed for those with some previous sewing experience. You will learn about cutting, accurate sewing, reading pattern instructions, interfacings, darts, blind hem, and zipper. Sewing 250: Dresses is also from The Little Sewing Room and is another class meant for those who have prior experience with sewing or knitting. You will learn how to make a LBD (Little Black Dress) over four sessions while using skills like cutting, accurate sewing, reading instructions, interfacings, fitting, and closures.

Virtual Knitting Classes

An online knitting class has its pros and cons, just like taking an in-person knitting class. One good thing about taking a virtual knitting class is that you can attend it from anywhere, meaning you can work on your knitting project in the comfort of your own home, at the beach, or even in a coffee shop. You also do not have to commute to a classroom, which saves both money and time. The biggest con about taking an online knitting class is that you generally have to supply your own materials and equipment.

If you are interested in online knitting classes, CourseHorse has options that will work for you. For example, Knitting is a class that takes place via Zoom and will teach you how to make a scarf with no prior experience, though all skill levels are welcome. Beginning Knitting is a three session course where you will learn the basics of knitting, including casting on, knitting, and binding off. The projects you will make in this course include an infinity scarf and a hat.

Knitting for Beginners (Online) is a beginner-friendly course that will teach you the basics of knitting in a virtual environment over the course of six sessions. Knitting Stitch Exploration is another beginner-friendly class that will help you explore a variety of knitting stitch patterns, as well as learn to make a range of textures, including knit/purl patterns, cables, lace, slip-stitch colorwork, and how to incorporate beads into your knitted fabrics.

Fiber Rainbow is a two hour workshop style course that invites you to use a variety of yarn choices to create a rainbow wall hanging. You select your own color palette, all levels of fiber enthusiasts are welcome, and supplies are included. And Basic Cable Mitten is a two session virtual offering that will show you how to make a basic cable knit mitten using the magic loop method.
