Experience our photography lessons in LoDo, one of Denver's premier photogenic locations featured regularly in our rotating selection of photography venues throughout the city.
Lower Downtown, commonly known as LoDo, stands as one of the most vibrant and dynamic neighborhoods in contemporary Denver. What makes this historic district so captivating is precisely that it represents one of Denver's oldest quarters; it overflows with rich historical significance and beautifully preserved classical architecture that reflects centuries of urban development and community stewardship. Join your Digital Photo Academy instructor as you explore the creative possibilities of blending and contrasting historic character with modern vitality.
LoDo provides photographers with an impressive variety of subjects and attractions, ranging from performing arts venues and museums to professional sports facilities, parks, and landscaped gardens. Yet the diversity of this neighborhood extends far beyond major attractions themselves. The varied architectural styles, the diverse population of residents and visitors, and the constantly shifting street scenes depending on time of day all contribute to making LoDo an endlessly exciting and differentiated environment. These abundant and varied visual elements combine to create remarkable opportunities for distinctive, engaging, and highly memorable photographs.
LoDo showcases an expansive selection of photographic subjects and vivid color palettes to explore through your lens. Capture the weathered brick facades of historic buildings contrasting beautifully with clear blue skies; photograph the impressive bridges and commemorative monuments that help define LoDo's character and identity as a premier photo destination; and frame the many locals and tourists enjoying the streets, parks, and public spaces throughout the neighborhood. Zoom in on details like vintage automobiles parked along the streets or step back to employ a wide-angle lens to capture compelling street scenes that showcase the neighborhood's scale and character.
Your instructor will teach you innovative techniques and creative approaches you can apply during the class and continue developing on your own with your camera. Discover methods to juxtapose old and new architectural elements for a thought-provoking interpretation of urban history; explore fresh angles and perspectives in familiar locations; and understand how strategic color choices can enhance, complement, or deliberately undermine your composition.
Rustic metal surfaces paired with smooth wood textures are the building blocks of striking urban landscape photography. Incorporate the diverse textures and distinctive shapes throughout the neighborhood into your photographic practice to convey mood, emotion, and visual interest in your finished work.
Remember to bring your fully-charged DSLR or your preferred digital camera, along with fully-charged backup batteries and all the equipment you can comfortably carry. Dress appropriately for current weather conditions and select comfortable, supportive footwear designed for walking and standing.
