Description
If you don't know it yet, there are many capoeiras inside capoeira. And I'm not talking about styles (Angola - Regional). This is about something much more personal, that you can feel at the very moment when you walk into any capoeira school, studio, academy, association, group or whatever you want to call it. They all carry some energy and they are all very different.
What generates these differences relies on the mestre, his associations, information, connections and beliefs. Some capoeiras are competitive, some more aggressive, some more traditional, some more technical and so on. Differences that I personally treasure, because it makes each capoeira group interesting and unique. There are "no better" or "worse" groups. In the capoeira world, there isn't any group that is so big that has nothing to learn or so small that has nothing to teach. Every group (school, academy etc.) has, I know, dedication, pride, and love for the same thing, capoeira. Because of that, independently of styles, psychology, size or history, they all have my deepest respect. All people and future students have different necessities. Finding the group that suits your necessities is, in my opinion, the key that will open the doors to capoeira for you, not for a short experience but for a long time.
At Capoeira of San Jose, we believe in positive energy and attitude and integration. Classes are held together for adults, children and senior citizens, which provides perfect social balance and harmony. The learning process is done in a very natural way without any unnecessary Pressure.
Capoeira is a highly active art and will provide a high quality workout but each individual is unique in their physical, mental and physiological ability. Therefore we don't expect and we don't encourage equal performances, only the best an individual can offer at the present time.
Capoeira of San Jose doesn't believe in violence. All the incredible power of capoeira must be channeled in order to make us better people, balanced physically and emotionally. In capoeira you don't do things alone, be prepared to meet people of all ages beliefs and races. Mestre Vaguinho (Wagner Bueno) always says, "If you are not having fun, you are not really doing capoeira".
Capoeira of San Jose welcomes visitors from all schools and of all styles, as long as the visitor understands and respects our philosophy and approach to the art. Capoeira of San Jose doesn't define itself as traditional Angola or Regional. Here we simply play capoeira! If the berimbau plays Angola, then Angola traditions and roots are to be respected and applied. If the berimbau plays Regional then Regional should be the characteristic of the game.
At Capoeira of San Jose We don't work hard to become a better fighter but we fight hard to become better people, through capoeira. We don't have either necessity or intention to be the best capoeira group but we'll guarantee to offer our best so you can experience capoeira in its' full dimensions (art, music, physical, mental, social, cultural etc.). If you are planning on visiting or even joining us, be ready for a good workout, a cultural voyage and above all, be ready to make new friends! -Wagner Bueno
Capoeira of San Jose was founded in 1995 by Mestre Vaguinho (Wagner Bueno). Mestre Vaguinho has been teaching Capoeira in USA since early 90‘s. The video above was created by Contra Mestre Girafa. (Thank you GIRAFA!) and as you can see, Capoeira of San Jose has an amazing team of Contra Mestres (Girafa, Poeta), Professora Beleza, Professor Roland, Formado Ricardao and other long term players that will help you excel in Capoeira while making good friends.
