Description

Mizuhiki is thought to date to the 7th century, when red and white cords decorated gifts traded with China. Twisted washi-paper cords developed into a Japanese craft used for weddings, seasonal celebrations, and other occasions. Knot forms and colors express connection and sentiment, with uses in fashion, interiors, and personal art.

Align and tie cords into knots, exploring color transitions in a focused, meditative process.

Beginners are welcome, with guidance throughout.

You will take home your one-of-a-kind artwork.

Participants of all genders are welcome.

Event Itinerary:

  • 10 min: The history of mizuhiki and a look at the paper cords and colors.
  • 15 min: Demonstration of the foundation knot.
  • 55 min: Guests tie their own piece, such as a pair of earrings or a card ornament, with guidance throughout.
  • 10 min: Finishing and take-home.

Provider note for At-client-location: When we travel to a client site, we ask for access to the room 60 minutes before the start time so the instructor can set up.
