Description

This is our most interactive menu option! Just like the “Chopped!” TV show, each group will be presented with a basket of 3 to 5 ingredients (along with access to our well-stocked pantry) with which they’ll need to create a delicious main course in 1.5 hours.  Their final plates will be judged by our chef-instructors on presentation, creative use of the basket ingredients, and overall flavor.

After the judging, everyone sits down to eat together in the dining room. The meal will consist of each team’s entree (they will make enough for the group), along with two side dishes that our chefs will cook up during the competition to complement the ingredient basket and create a full meal to enjoy. We can accommodate all dietary restrictions, if provided ahead of time.

A DIY ice cream sundae bar at the end rounds out the event.

Our chef-instructor John was very good at guiding us (step-by-step) through the various dishes we prepared. He was well-prepared allowing us to start cooking the moment the class began. The hands-on experience was helpful in retaining both recipes and techniques demonstrated. It was an added bonus to learn a few useful knife skills along the way. As an instructor, Chef John was extremely engaging and knowledgeable. I would not hesitate to recommend Home Cooking New York to anyone.

What Kind of Chopped Style Competition Team Building Games Are Available in NYC?

A Chopped-style team-building activity in NYC brings the excitement and creativity of a cooking competition to life, offering teams a chance to bond over food and fun. Participants are divided into smaller teams and challenged to create delicious dishes using a mystery basket of ingredients, just like on the popular TV show. These ingredients often include a mix of familiar staples and unusual items, encouraging team members to think creatively and work together to craft unique recipes. Teams have a set time to brainstorm, cook, and present their culinary creations to a panel of judges, which can include professional chefs or other team members acting as taste testers. The event typically takes place in a professional kitchen or a cooking studio in NYC, providing all the tools and guidance needed for a successful competition.

Throughout the competition, team members must collaborate effectively, delegating tasks based on individual strengths and preferences. This involves everything from chopping and cooking to plating and presentation. The time constraints and unexpected ingredients add an element of pressure and excitement, pushing teams to think on their feet and make quick decisions. As the clock ticks down, participants experience the thrill of bringing their culinary visions to life, all while learning to communicate and cooperate in a fast-paced environment. After the cooking phase, teams present their dishes, highlighting the creativity and teamwork that went into each plate. The event concludes with a tasting and judging session, where feedback is shared and a winning team is crowned. This hands-on experience not only encourages creativity and innovation but also strengthens bonds as team members cheer each other on and celebrate their shared achievements.
