Description
Explore the Japanese tea ceremony, known as chanoyu ("hot water for tea") or chadō ("the way of tea"). This tradition of preparing and sharing tea has a history of more than 800 years.
Prepare powdered green tea, or matcha, with traditional utensils. Practice the deliberate movements and rituals rooted in Zen Buddhist philosophy.
All backgrounds and experience levels are welcome; no prior knowledge of tea ceremony is required.
The class takes place around a table rather than seated on the floor, making participation more comfortable. It is suitable for curious beginners and those interested in pursuing tea ceremony further.
What's Included:
- No required materials for this class; come exactly as you are. A personal tea bowl (a ceramic bowl roughly 5 inches in diameter) and a kimono are optional but not required.
- Tea bowls are available for all participants in class, and all styles of attire are welcome.
