Mission Statement of MufukaWorks Dance Company:

To use Afro Russe dance (fusion of African, Ballet and Contemporary) as a vehicle to tell human life stories in dance education and performance. MufukaWorks has an on-going Afro Russe Dance Education Program with Mecklenburg Parks and Recration as well as being a teaching artist for Charlotte Ballet.

About the Founder/DirectorElsie Mufuka:

Elsie Mufuka is a current student of Arts Administration Masters Program at Winthrop University. She is a Coker College graduate of 2008 of dual Bachelor of Art degrees in Dance and Communications, and some of her references are The Amy Marshall Dance Company residency of New York City, The Wanda Project, and Choreographer/Mentor Natty Mncube.

After her undergraduate completion in 2008, she accepted her first job in South Africa with Ntosana Contemporary Dance Theatre director Sello Pesa. For a year and a half, Mufuka worked with this company as well as Taelo Dance Theatre-Gustin Makgeledisa, DTL Enterainment-Tumie Letsoenyo, and Lorcia Cooper. Not only as a dancer but as an administrator, executive assistant, and dance facilitator. As a dance facilitator, Mufuka has proved to transform anyone into his or her inner dancer. This was evident in her additional work of teaching in the townships of Soweto and Alexandra in South Africa.

Both internationally and locally, Mufuka has developed even more experience in her craft of dance and now enlightens her skills back into her own dance company entitled MufukaWorks Dance Company.
