Description

In this shibori dyeing class, open to beginners or returning Beginner Shibori students,  we will focus on Itajime techniques. These focus on using folding and blocks to create tradition Japanese fabric patterns.  Learn the difference between triangle, grid and the lovely ways to fold to create pieces that resemble mandalas.

We start by creating a pre-reduced indigo vat. Sankaku, gōshi, kikkō, and asanoha  will all be show, as well as some fun tricks to create more complicated looks without a headache.  All materials provided, but you are welcome to bring materials. Make sure that all fibers are natural, ie. cotton linen silk wool. Each student will be able to create 3-4 pieces


COVID Precautions:

All attendees must be masked during class, provide vaccine card, and fill out form send the week of your class

Your teacher is vaccinated and will be masked. If you are hearing impaired, reach out beforehand so a plan can be made for the teacher to give introductory instruction without the mask if lip reading is necessary.

Less 2 business days notice we have the right to refuse refund or credit.

In any event where a customer wants to cancel their enrollment and is eligible for a full refund, a 5% processing fee will be deducted from the refund amount.

    The Itajime Shibori workshop at Better than Jam was fantastic. Thoroughly throughout with lessons on how the technique was created from traditional to modern-day interpretation. Learning the process while making your dye pieces is thought-provoking and leaves you with a calmness that you will long for after you go. I've shown my work to friends and family, and they all rave for a piece. It now seems that I'll have to retake this workshop to have a couple of items for myself. I would recommend this class to everyone and anyone. 10/10. Thank you for such a great lesson on the Itajime Shibori technique.
