Class Description

Description

Working with Oxides is a hands-on ceramics workshop focused on using metal oxides to build color and surface variation on clay and glaze. We’ll explore how common oxides like iron, copper, cobalt, and chromium behave in different applications, and how factors like concentration, glaze base, and firing conditions influence the final result.

Students will experiment with applying oxides to bisque ware, see how small adjustments lead to big visual shifts, and gain a clearer understanding of how oxides affect not just color, but texture, movement, and finish. The workshop blends practical guidance with open-ended exploration, making it a good fit for beginners as well as more experienced ceramic artists looking to expand their surface approach.

Materials: Oxides and tools will be provided. Students encouraged to bring bisque ware (studio bisque available if needed).

Skill Level: This is a beginner-friendly workshop

Please note: Make-up classes are not available for one-day workshops. If you’re unable to attend, we unfortunately can’t offer a reschedule or make-up session.
