Capture the captivating essence of New York City's nighttime landscape in this 2-hour hands-on photography class. Whether you are a beginner interested in mastering manual camera settings or an experienced photographer seeking to develop advanced low-light photography techniques, this class will meet you at your current skill level and push you further.

What You'll Learn:

  • Adjust your camera's manual settings to achieve proper exposure in challenging low-light environments, understanding how aperture, shutter speed, and ISO work together for optimal results.

  • Apply specialized techniques for photographing New York City at night, including capturing expansive cityscapes, dynamic traffic movement, and the distinctive atmosphere that makes nocturnal urban photography compelling.

  • Compose compelling shots and harness light creatively to produce striking nighttime images with visual impact and artistic depth.

Supplies and Materials:

  • Materials are not provided. You must bring your own camera and have a working understanding of manual mode settings before attending.

  • Tripods and flashes are not permitted during the class.

Additional Notes:

  • Specific location details and supplementary class information will be emailed to all enrolled students one to two days before the class begins, giving you time to plan your arrival.

  • This class is designed specifically for students who are already comfortable operating their cameras in manual mode.

Refund Policy

  • We will issue a refund less a 5% cancellation fee if the student gives us 2 business days' notice.
  • You can reschedule to a future date with no penalty.
  • In any event where a customer wants to cancel their enrollment and is eligible for a full refund, a 5% processing fee will be deducted from the refund amount.

    I feel very fortunate to have stumbled onto the Art of Intuitive Photography workshops. On a whim I signed up for the Mastering Manual Mode At Night workshop and—wow—it was a win for me. For two hours Ocie guided my learning with thoughtful insights, suggestions for technical improvement, honest critique, and humor as I learned various techniques and strategies to take advantage of nighttime lighting, shadows, reflections, and so on. The two hours seemed to wiz by in a few minutes in the immersive but safe space Ocie created for my learning experience. I am looking forward to exploring other learning opportunities with Art of Intuitive Photography. Check them out if you’re looking to up your photography game.

    Mindy was excellent, she explained everything in detail and allowed us to practice our new skill. But communication from Coursehorse about the exact location of the course was very sketchy. I almost was walking away, thinking that 20 Lincoln Center was the address, but the actual class was outdoors, near the fountain in front of Lincoln Center and the folks at the gate, correctly, had to clue about any photography class. Just before walking away, Mindy sent me a text message and that's how I connected to her. There were no explanations about how the class would be organised, what equipment to bring. Very disorganised.

    Mindy started the class on time. Her method of teaching is exactly as she describes it- intuitive. Within minutes, the class was able to capture night time shots that we would have never been able to take without Mindy's guidance. She quickly dismisses the idea of needing a tripod for night time photography. I even got to learn how to take beautiful photo art/photo writing pictures. Highly recommended class. Thank You Mindy!
