Class Description

Description

Leather is an incredibly versatile and durable material that can be used to craft beautiful, long-lasting items, from stylish clothing and shoes to virtually indestructible luggage and many other practical goods. In this comprehensive workshop, you will learn the fundamental techniques and skills of leatherwork by crafting your own professional-quality custom leather bag.

You will begin this workshop by selecting the leather you will use for your bag. We will provide a large and diverse selection of high quality leather for you to choose from for your bag's sides, featuring lots of bold and bright colors alongside subtle, classic options. We will also provide several color choices for your bag's straps, which you will cut to the perfect length tailored specifically for you.

After making your selections, you will begin transforming these materials into your one-of-a-kind bag. You will learn the essential skills of cutting, burnishing, riveting, and sewing leather to professional standards. Along the way, you will become familiar with specialized leatherworking tools including bevelers, dies, anvils, and rivets, as well as our state-of-the-art Sailrite industrial sewing machine.

At the conclusion of this workshop, you will leave with a one-of-a-kind leather bag that you crafted entirely with your own hands, plus all the well-deserved bragging rights that come with such an accomplishment. You will also depart with the knowledge and practical skills needed to create most anything from leather.

Learn how to properly care for your leather goods with our comprehensive guide to ensure your finished bag remains beautiful and functional for many years.

Date Night Option: You and your guest will make one custom leather bag together during this workshop and will receive pizza and a bottle of wine to share throughout the experience. At least one person must be 18 years old or older.

What You'll Be Making: A handcrafted leather bag measuring approximately 13 inches by 11 inches by 5 inches in overall dimensions.

What You'll Be Doing: Using specialized leather craft tools, including punches, rivet setters, anvils, and an industrial-grade sewing machine, to create your unique design.
