Description

This listing is for the Monday night class that meets from 6:30-9:30pm. This class runs for Seven consecutive weeks.

Deepen your wheel-throwing practice with traditional Korean pottery techniques in this 7-week course for intermediate and advanced students. Led by Itai Lavie, this class focuses on the mechanics and fluidity of Korean wheel work—from scaling up taller cylinders to mastering off-the-hump forms like sabal and teapots. Students will also learn the art of throwing and assembling two-part moon jars, as well as traditional Korean methods for trimming and glazing.

Prerequisites: Prior wheel experience required; students should be comfortable centering and throwing forms independently.

The studio provides basic tools and equipment for community use, though students are welcome to bring their own tools and storage systems if preferred. Please note that clay and firing costs are separate from the class fee and must be purchased additionally. Students enjoy unlimited access to open studio time and receive their own designated shelf space for storing works in progress and personal tools throughout the duration of the class.

  • Week 1: Check-In & Throwing Taller Cylinders
  • Week 2: Throwing Off the Hump: Teapots & Sabal
  • Week 3: Volumetric Forms: Stretching Moon Jars
