Younger students will be introduced to the potter's wheel. Students will explore different methods of throwing, and altering. Students are given options to built functional wares, such as cups, bowls, and even more elaborate wares like teapots. They are also taught to use the wheel as a tool for sculptural pieces, where they can cut, and alter thrown objects to abstract forms.
At this level, we begin to explore the more advanced techniques of throwing. Personal development, and style is encouraged. Techniques such as sgraffito, and altering forms are introduced. Students also have the option of using specialty clay bodies. More complex forms are also introduced such as teapots, jars with lids, and much more! Younger students will create functional, and sculptural objects by learning both basic, and advanced techniques. They will learn how to properly handle the material, and construct their ideas with clay. They build anything from head busts, to functional plant pots. We will assist them in building out their ideas.
