Keepsake Shrine Assemblage

Affectionately nicknamed “The Tjap [chop] House,” this project was originally designed to showcase a beautiful tjap or wooden printing block from Artistic Artifacts, keeping a favorite surface design tool on display when it’s not in use. It’s also the perfect home to highlight any other precious object that you have.

Students will choose from a variety of house-shaped open-back boxes and sliding-lid cigar boxes for the foundation piece. Then the box will be turned into a shrine using a variety of materials such as fabric, paint, lace, decorative nails or tacks, vintage costume jewelry, etc., adding a pedestal inside the shrine to display your object. Leslie will demonstrate how to use a quick-setting resin to make low-relief embellishments for the shrines as well. 

Fee includes kit: the box, pedestal base, a variety of embellishments and use of acrylic paint in class. Please bring the following to class: scissors; inexpensive paint brush or sponge brush; any adhesive you like to use (tacky glue, wood glue, rhino glue, glue gun, etc.); embellishments (paper, fabric, lace, fibers, jewelry embellishments, etc.); and your chosen focal piece. 

Please also bring a small hammer and pliers if you already own them (no need to purchase); the instructor will have other necessary tools to share.
