Description
The Jewish Federation of Greater Seattle creates Jewish Connections for Life - ensuring that all Jews can participate in Jewish life in any way thats fits their interests and passions, at every stage of life. The Federation was founded in 1928 to serve the Jewish community, locally and around the world.
Over its nearly nine decades of service, the Federation has been at the forefront of meeting the community’s wide-ranging needs – rescuing and resettling Holocaust survivors in the 1940s, helping Ethiopian and Russian emigres in the 1980s and 1990s, funding human services in Seattle, Israel and overseas Jewish communities, supporting Jewish education and camping, sponsoring holiday celebrations and cultural programs, and much more.
Since its establishment as the Seattle Jewish Fund in 1928, the Federation has gone through several name changes reflecting shifts in the community and in service priorities. As new needs have emerged, the Federation has adapted and adjusted to meet those needs. Today, the Federation remains committed to fulfilling the aspirations of Seattle’s Jewish community.
