The course was expertly addressed. The teacher took time but not too long to make sure everyone in the class was up to speed. The students varied in excel skill level but with an Intermediate class nothing took too long for everyone to fully grasp. I think the teacher thoroughly went through exercises and practice problems. Sometimes even called on students to complete exercises in front of the classroom. Everyone was called on about once and if you really do not know you do not need to go up. It's more of a way of making you feel proud of figuring it out. I will definitely be back for a higher level course! Thanks again!

Excel was released by Microsoft in 1985 and has grown in popularity over the decades. This industry-standard spreadsheet application helps professionals in all industries and roles perform a range of daily tasks, such as gathering, organizing, and analyzing data. Excel is considered a user-friendly application that’s relied on by technical and non-technical professionals alike because it makes it easier and faster to organize and locate information contained on a spreadsheet. Employees with Excel training are in-demand across professions because they can complete professional tasks like monitoring inventory and supplies, creating budgets, sorting revenue statements, calculating profit and loss margins, and visualizing pertinent data findings much faster than those who lack spreadsheet skills. Seattle Industries That Use Excel

Microsoft Excel is a popular tool in a range of industries in Seattle. This spreadsheet application is relied on by those who work in the construction industry, in health services, or in technology. The following sections will take a closer look at the integral role Excel plays in these industries.

Construction

The Seattle construction industry is vast and comprises three types of construction: roads and highways, residential and commercial specialty trades, and buildings. Those who work in these different types of construction rely on tools like Excel to create budgets, allocate resources, manage projects, and model and analyze data. This spreadsheet app is a powerful tool that helps those in construction organize data on projects and ensure it’s easy to access and update. It also helps with making calculations and creating reports based on the data.

Health Services

The health services industry supplies the region with medical services, conducts research and development, and supports workforce training and education. This industry plays a huge economic role in this city and is expected to expand by 16% by 2030. In Seattle, one out of every five jobs is in healthcare. This industry alone employs over 90,000 Seattle residents. This industry encompasses hospitals, healthcare providers and practitioners, medical services like labs and ambulances, products like medical devices or supplies, training, and research endeavors. Healthcare Analysts and other health service professionals use Excel to help manage their data needs. Because health data comes from a range of sources, like e-health records, patient surveys, billing claims, and cost reports, Excel helps them collect, organize, and analyze these data. These professionals can then offer insights into how their hospital or medical facility is currently performing and how it can improve patient treatments and optimize internal processes. Data insights help them offer suggestions aimed at lowering treatment costs while improving patient care.

Technology

Another prominent Seattle industry is technology and innovation. Seattle’s track record of decades of innovation in ecommerce, software, gaming, machine learning, and AI makes this city one of the global powerhouses in tech. Over 13% of Seattle employees have tech-related careers, such as web development, UX and UI design, or software development. In 2021, nearly 95,000 tech jobs were posted in this area.

Developers in Seattle regularly work with Excel because it has all the elements of a full stack app development platform. Excel is the go-to for those looking to quickly develop any data-driven application because its interface is largely accessible and easy to work with. Another reason why Developers gravitate toward Excel is that it can handle all three traditional tiers of application architectures: data, business logic, and presentation. Additionally, VBA, which is Excel’s built-in programming language, helps Seattle-based Developers apply common programming structures, such as IF statements and loops, to their Excel object model. This means that programming logic can be applied to nearly any Excel object, such as charts, cell ranges, PivotTables, and entire notebooks. This is a useful feature in that it allows Developers to automate a significant number of Excel functions.

Excel Jobs & Salaries in Seattle

Over 7,000 Excel jobs are currently posted for the greater Seattle area. Those with the knowledge and training to use this industry-standard spreadsheet tool are in demand across industries and professions. Excel helps professionals like Project Managers,

Project Management

Because of how prevalent the construction industry is in Seattle, Project Managers in this city have many job opportunities. Project Managers oversee a team and ensure they fully understand the entire scope of a project or task. These professionals take on a leadership role, working with tools like Excel to monitor different projects’ progress. Excel helps them track projects to ensure they are on schedule for timely completion. It also helps them manage budget constraints so that all costs are accounted for. Spreadsheets can be used to organize financial information or vendor data, consolidate daily progress reports, and create reports to share with stakeholders that illustrate the status of a job.

Project Managers are paid approximately $85,000 a year in the US. Salaries for these professionals are significantly higher in Seattle; these professionals can expect to make nearly $110,000 annually.

Cybersecurity

Cybersecurity is a popular profession in Seattle because of the city’s many IT companies and startups. One of Seattle’s main employers is Deloitte Digital, which provides different cybersecurity services to those in the area. Cybersecurity professionals like Ethical Hackers are in demand in Seattle because they help secure data and prevent cyberattacks. These professionals are tasked with spotting and reporting any vulnerabilities an organization is exposed to. They also offer suggestions to remediate these problems. Once a solution is implemented, an Ethical Hacker re-tests the system to ensure the problem has been resolved and no threat remains. Those in cybersecurity use Excel’s features, such as Power Pivot and Power Query, to import millions of rows of their organization’s data. This software helps them shape and load the data into the data model used for PivotChart and PivotTable analytics. Excel also can help these professionals transform web traffic logs into a workbook.

The average salary for a US-based Ethical Hacker is currently $110,000. Ethical Hackers who live in the Seattle area make significantly more and can expect to earn $145,000 a year.

Software Engineering

Seattle is home to more than 3,500 tech companies. This city is a hub for cloud computing due to companies like Amazon Web Services and Google Cloud’s presence. Software Engineers in Seattle create computer programs and apps designed to execute tasks on laptops, smartphones, or other computing devices. Software Engineers work with specialized engineering software but also rely on Excel to perform many of their daily tasks since this app can perform so many engineering-related tasks. Excel is useful for performing quick calculations on equation sets. It also integrates well with other commonly used software and files. Spreadsheet data or charts can be linked to in Word or PowerPoint, which helps Software Engineers create reports and share information with other organizational stakeholders.

In the US, Software Engineers with Excel training make a salary of around $110,000

Those employed in Seattle earn significantly more and make over $145,000 annually.

Excel Corporate Training

A great way to support your employees while simultaneously investing in your organization is to provide them with Excel corporate training for Seattle businesses. CourseHorse can provide beginner-friendly workshop instruction that helps those at your workplace learn how Excel can be used for a range of everyday professional tasks. Coursework is taught through hands-on exercises that allow employees to learn Excel features and shortcuts that will help them perform work tasks much faster. Instruction is provided on core Excel tools and techniques, like using basic spreadsheet functions, executing calculations, adding data to a worksheet, formatting, creating data visualizations, and printing worksheets and workbooks. Corporate training is particularly useful for those who have not formally studied Excel and have little or no background in using this tool.

Excel corporate training is taught by example. An instructor with industry experience using Excel teaches participants one specific spreadsheet skill at a time. Participants are then given an example that reinforces it. Learners are then given time to complete an activity on their own to help them commit this skill to memory before moving on. Following the training session, those enrolled keep their training guides for later reference. They also have access to a suite of companion Excel videos that provide beginner-friendly Excel content and instruction.

Enrolling your employees in corporate Excel training is a great way to demonstrate that you value their professional development and are committed to helping them learn the skills they need to do so. The spreadsheet knowledge they gain through study will help them handle data more efficiently and accurately. It will also empower them to find innovative solutions to workplace problems, which can benefit the organization as a whole and improve overall performance. In addition, the Excel skills they acquire will help them bring additional value to their current position.

If your employees have specific training needs or requirements, you can schedule a free consultation. This ensures that their training sessions will cover the skills most essential to your organization and that instruction will be at the appropriate skill level. If you’re interested in enrolling multiple employees in training, group vouchers are available for a discount. These vouchers allow your employees to choose when they want to complete training. Coursework can be completed around their work schedules, on weeknights, or over the weekend. In-person training is offered where instructors can come directly to your workplace.
