What you'll learn in this sculpture class:

Sculpting, drawing, and painting the figure

This is a tactile, physical approach to figure studies. Rather than learning about the body by translating it directly into flat space, students will develop their understanding of the form physically, by studying a live model and our own ideas, and building it with clay. The sculptures will then be our subjects for paintings, while we continue to explore ways to describe 3 dimensional forms on a 2 dimensional surface. While this is not a direct anatomy class, there will be discussion of proportions and mechanics within the human form.

Materials
Sculpting medium will be Plastilina non-hardening modeling clay. Drawing and painting materials will be artist’s choice of wet or dry media: oil, acrylic, watercolor, pastel, charcoal, graphite – chose something you enjoy working with.

This is an intermediate class. Knowledge of your chosen materials is a prerequisite.

Most Bestest Class Ever
This class is a continuation of Spring session’s “Heads” class, voted “Most Bestest Class Ever” by spring quarter students.

Built over a century ago, the Ballard Locks are the nation’s busiest with over 40,000 vessel crossings each year. The tourism business at this locale is quite extensive but for a photographer in particular, the photo ops abound, beginning with capturing the vintage appeal of series of buildings erected in the distant past.
