What you'll learn in this figure drawing class:

This is a fun and intensive class, a 4 hour class in half the time, without sacrificing learning or enjoyment. This class will introduce the fundamentals of gestural figure drawing. Every week participants will be introduced to different technique or approach for measuring, mass, gestures, and more. Students will work from the nude model, with poses ranging from 30 seconds to 20 minutes.

Figure drawing is a repeatable class! If you have taken this class before and enjoyed the format, take it again. You will not be bored, and your skills will continue to improve each time. You might impress yourself with what a revisit will do for your success and enjoyment.

Materials list:

For April 5, 2020

  • Soft vine charcoal sticks. (Bob’s Vine Charcoal is local, great for big and chunky marks. Traditional vine and willow sticks are more svelte, for finer work. Get one of each if you’re curious.) You’re going to use a lot of charcoal.
  • Compressed charcoal. Good brands to try are General’s compressed charcoal (these are high quality hard sticks like conte) or char-kole black pastels (these are very soft and velvety.) Get one of each if you’re curious, or pick one and save a few $.
  • Conte (sepia tones)
  • One inexpensive soft pastel – square sides, not round  – any color you enjoy
  • One inexpensive felt tipped pen – any color you enjoy
  • Chamois
  • White plastic eraser (General’s triangle eraser is very good)
  • Newsprint paper (18×24″). You’re going to go through at least 2 big pads of paper.

For February 26 & April 29, 2020

Bring soft thick vine charcoal, soft medium vine charcoal willow sticks, compressed charcoal, brown-ish conte, a chamois, a white plastic eraser, and newsprint paper (18×24″)
