School of Visual Philosophy

The School of Visual Philosophy was founded in 2013 by Yori and Dana Seeger. Both have had formal training in fine art, Yori focusing on sculpture and Dana on painting and printmaking.

We are artists focused on education. Visual Philosophy is about creating, learning and advancing art in Silicon Valley, California. We are fine artists, craftspeople, teachers, students, hobbyists, apprentices, and above all, makers and lovers of art.

We are a community within Silicon Valley California that strives to incorporate multiple disciplines of art as well as technology into a way of being. We believe art is a necessary part of life and culture and should be all inclusive. If we don't provide it, or teach it, let us know and we will try to incorporate it.

Our educational structure is based on three aspects.

First, we aim to engage the community around Silicon Valley with our Group Studio Sessions. These are low-key, drop-in groups, such as life drawing, designed to teach specific skills and give people a chance to work freely without the pressure of a class structure. They are guided by a knowledgeable instructor and bring together all skill levels.

The second aspect is the Workshop. These are designed to be quick introductions into specific media or techniques such as welding. Our workshops bring in students of all skill levels and we encourage people to branch out and become acquainted with a new way of working in order to grow their current practice. Often workshops will highlight a particularly new technique such as polymer plate lithography and we welcome ideas for future workshops.

The most complex aspect is our Courses. Each of our courses incorporates a fundamental art media, be it ceramic sculpture, printmaking, etc. into a way of learning and viewing the world that goes beyond just skill building. We believe being an artist requires a different way of seeing and interacting with our surroundings that can be nurtured and cultivated. Our courses range from Beginner to Advanced and form the basis of our ultimate goal of becoming an accredited MFA program.
