What you'll learn in this esl class:

The program pairs English study with volunteer internship experience at an American Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) or company. This model of enriched education combines English language studies with unpaid volunteer experience in an industry that matches your skills and interests. In the Volunteer Experience Program, you will volunteer with some of the most socially-forward, dynamic and innovative American organizations. Gain valuable skills in a professional setting and put your language ability to work to support important social and environmental causes.

What's included in the program:
  • Personalized VEP Orientation upon arrival
  • One-one-one counseling from a VEP Coordinator
  • Assistance creating a letter of intent & resume
  • Job interview coaching & resources
  • Tutoring on North American business culture
  • Weekly check-ins with your VEP Coordinator
  • ILSC VEP Certificate, with total volunteer hours
  • Letter of Recommendation from your placement organization upon successful completion of the program

All students will begin with 4 weeks of English Language study. For the volunteer experience portion, see some example schedules below:

As a Visitor/On a Tourist Visa:
Volunteer Experience: 10-20 hours per week; Morning or afternoon while studying or after study ends

As s Student/On an F1 Visa:
Volunteer Experience: 5-15 hours per week; Morning or afternoon while studying or after study ends 

Program Length: Minimum 8 weeks

Minimum 4 weeks study* followed by minimum 4 weeks combined study + volunteer internship experience **

OR

Minimum 4 weeks study* followed by 4 - 8 weeks volunteer internship experience only (no classes) **

*It takes us 4 weeks to secure the placement

**For F1 students, the volunteer portion is not counted in their study program, and may take place at any point throughout the duration of their F1 status, including concurrent to studies or after completion of studies during the grace period.

Refund Policy
Refund Policy for cancellations & Withdrawals:

*To receive a refund of any portion of tuition fees, you must give written notice that you intend to withdraw from the program in which you have enrolled. If your Study Permit or Visa is denied, or you cancel before your program start date, we will retain the $150 non-refundable Registration Fee and if applicable, the $100 Accommodation Registration Fee. If you cancel in writing after your program starts or are dismissed for just cause after your program starts, you will be refunded the following proportion of your tuition fees:
  • If notice of cancellation is made through attendance at the first class session, or the seventh day after enrollment, (whichever is later): we shall refund 100% of the amount paid for institutional charges, less the application fee and homestay placement fee, not to exceed two hundred and fifty dollars ($250)
  • If you have completed 60% or less of the period of attendance, we shall refund 100% of unused tuition
  • If you complete more than 60% of your program, we shall NOT refund any portion of tuition
  • Refunds will be based on recalculated weekly tuition rates according to total number of weeks actually studied
  • If you first signed a refund agreement with an agency, then we will issue a refund to the agency in accordance with our refund policy, and the agency will refund you in accordance to its agreement with you. 
  • If you are eligible for a refund under the conditions above, you will receive the refund within 45 days of receiving written notice of cancellation or our notice to you of dismissal.
*Program is defined as whatever length of time a student registers for.

Refund Policy for Downgrading your Study Schedule:
  • A Downgrading Schedule fee of $100 will apply
  • Requests for change of schedule must be made in writing at least 3 weeks prior to the new schedule desired start date
  • All schedule changes will take effect on the first day of a new session (note that new sessions start every 4 weeks)
  • You are NOT able to change schedules that lead to a status change unless you have first officially changed status in the U.S.
  • Note: if you change your program from a specialty program to a core program, you have to withdraw from the specialty program and re-apply to the core program.
