Color Level III

This is an intense course for students who have a basic understanding and experience with the color wheel and the three properties of COLOR——HUE, SATURATION AND VALUE and a working knowledge of how to create palettes and know ways of communicating with color.

You will learn:

• How to use color to effectively capture and hold the attention of the viewer
• Continue to explore creating depth and layers in painting with hues and values
• Create your own unique palettes from nature
• Exploring and working with neutrals and tertiary colors
• Learn master palettes
• Slide shows on topics of discussion
• How to create dynamic compositions with color
• Use the potent language of emotions to communicate expressively
• Explore a topic on color for your own unique uses
• One-on-one and group instruction
• Classes will be recorded for replay
• Place to share artwork, slide shows and replays for 6 months after class ends

Prerequisite: Please have experience doing the following

• Color mixing
• Painting and composing images with primary, monochromatic color, neutrals, complimentary colors, analogous colors and warm/cool colors
• Creating palettes that are harmonious
• Understanding of the power of value in creating layers, etc.

Required Materials:

• 9” x 12” or 11” x 14” multimedia workbook
• Paints: warm and cool of each of the three primary colors, black and white and other colors that you wish and like
• Tools
• Palette knife
• Shapers
• Scrapers
• Brushes - range of sizes and types
• Chip brushes 1”, 1 ½”, 2”
• Graphite, charcoal, eraser (optional)
• Tablet of 18” x 24” mixed media paper
• 10 Sheets of 15” x 22” 140 lb heavyweight mixed media paper
• Sponge, spray bottle
• Rag and paper towels
• Water bucket
• Palette paper
• Blue tape
• Glue stick
• Scissors
• Ruler

Please Note: Paper and paints and basic studio supplies are provided for a fee of $35

The school will send out a map, materials list and welcome email approximately 10 days to 1 week before start of the class.
