Tena Navarrete

Tena was born and raised in Los Angeles. After receiving her B.S. from the University of Souther California, Tena moved to Bakersfield and pursued her art career. She currently resides in Del Mar. Her work has its roots in Abstract Expressionism. The external world has a strong influence on her work. Working non-objectively allows images from memory to develop. Each painting is a gradual unfolding of her inner consciousness. Tena enjoys the spontaneous change of color, structure, line, and texture. The process of multiple layering—scraping, changing, painting over, and redrawing—create a rich image that expresses the intensive fascination with the process of new discovery. Thus, Tena's work is unique and self-revealing.
