Teaches at Art on 30th
Julia San Román is a California artist born in Madrid, Spain. Although she concentrated her formal education on science, choosing to move to the United States to further her career and earning a PhD in Biology, the influence of her childhood exposure to art remained an integral part of her passion for life and, after receiving training in Studio Arts and Art History at the college level, she has committed her life to painting.
Lately, she has been focusing on light to express a sense of HOPE. Here, under the influence of the Southern California Light & Space Movement, she finds herself exploring abstraction with a new impetus, where she integrates geometric abstraction with naturalistic episodes of light passing through clouds.
Since her epiphany, San Román has had solo exhibitions at the Oceanside Museum of Art, Cannon Public Gallery, the San Diego International Airport, Salazar Contemporary Art Exhibits and more locally. She has also been included in group exhibitions nationwide: Los Angeles, Houston, New York, Washington DC, Tulsa, New Orleans, and more. Her work has been reviewed by the L.A. critic, Grady Harp, for “POETS and ARTISTS,” as well as for the San Diego Union Tribune blogs, and featured a number of times for the Spanish newspaper, "DIARIO LA OPINION."
