Description
Sabor Andaluz, as its names suggests, will provide you with a sweet and gentle taste of Spain. Our routines are very traditional and carefully chosen to please our diverse audiences.
Sabor Andaluz was created 15 years ago by the talented San Diego Flamenco dancer, choreographer and instructor Stephania Rey. She began her flamenco instruction at the age of eight with Spanish native instructors. In search of becoming a world-class flamenco dancer, she has passionately dedicated her efforts in expanding her knowledge of this art form. In the United States, she has studied with the most recognized instructors and exponents of the Flamenco dance and with international figures such as Farruquito, Angelita Gomez, Maria del Mar Moreno, Antonio Vargas (from the movie Strictly Ballroom), Juana Amaya, Rafael Campallo, Manuel Linan, and many others as well as attended several flamenco workshops in California at the renowned New World Flamenco and Santa Barbara Flamenco Festivals. Stephania has been featured at the prestigious Fountain Theater's Forever Flamenco in Hollywood California on several occasions and with the highly recognized Spanish Flamenco Company Herencia Flamenca.
Stephania is not only a very gifted dancer and choreographer. She is not only trained in Flamenco but also in some of the most challenging dance forms of classical Indian dance Kathak and Bharatanatyam. In recent years we have added Bollywood and several International folk dances from around the world to our already diverse programs. She has performed locally and throughout Southern California with her Flamenco Company Sabor Andaluz in such places as the Del Mar Fair, Linda Vista Multicultural Fair, San Diego Renaissance Fair, Cabrillo Festival, UCSD Nations of San Diego International Dance festival, North Park Spring Festival, Feria de Sevilla in Long Beach, Embassy of Spain in Los Angeles, Christmas on the Prado-Balboa Park, San Diego House of India, Escondido Street Fair, International Fringe Festival, Qualcomm Stadium, just to mention a few. She has strongly contributed her time during the past 15 years to promote the Spanish and Indian cultures and folklore through different programs and events organized by non-profit organizations in California, as well as at several local community colleges, high schools and universities.
Sabor Andaluz is always evolving and innovating its style but keeping the essence and passion present in traditional Flamenco intact. Among their latest accomplishments are the mutual collaboration with local and prestigious artists at the level of Nova Menco, David de Alva, Paco and Yolanda Arroyo. and the creation of India Andaluz (Bollywood). We are highly recognized in Southern California for our high quality collaborative performances through fusion with other dance styles and noteworthy performers of tango, belly dance and Indian classical dances.
