Marc Mommaas and Tim Horner

Teaches at New York Jazz Workshop

Marc Mommaas:

Marc Mommaas (b1969) comes from an artistic background. His mother is an opera singer/pianist and his father a well known painter in the Dutch art scene. During Marc's study in Amsterdam NL he combined his musical development with a university education (Masters in Comm.Science/Business). After being awarded with two Dutch grants (Stichting Podium Kunsten, Prins Bernard Fonds Anjer Fondsen) in 1997, he moved to New York City. amsterdam Once in New York, Marc received a full scholarship to attend the Manhattan School of Music where he pursued his Masters in Jazz Performance. Upon graduating he was awarded the William H. Borden Award, given to only one student selected from the graduating class for outstanding achievement. Marc made his debut as a leader in 1999 recording Global Motion Trio with Nikolaj Hess (piano) and John Hebert (bass). In 2001 the acclaimed drummer Tony Moreno joined the group which now has become Global Motion. After an extensive tour in Europe including a 5 day hit at the Pompoen in Amsterdam, the band returned to NYC and recorded Global Motion, released by Sunnyside Records in 2003. This release earned critical praise in Downbeat, Jazztimes, Jazzimprov, All About Jazz and numerous online platforms. This record was followed by another well received Sunnyside release titled Balance (2006), a long anticipated duo recording with pianist and longtime friend Nikolaj Hess. In 2005 Marc had begun a guitar project titled Landmarc together with Tony Moreno, Nate Radley, Vic Juris and Rez Abbasi, which will yield its 1st release on March 2010, by Sunnyside Records.

Tim Horner:

Tim Horner began playing the drums at the age of ten. His influences rest primarily with musical parents. His introduction with music began by singing in the church choir at a very early age and by the 4th grade he began playing violin, viola, and drums in his public school music programs. This continued through high school while also joining The Roanoke Civic Orchestra and attending numerous summer music camps. Upon entering Berklee College of Music in 1974 he made drumming and the goal of being a professional jazz drummer his dream. His first major professional work was with The Tommy Dorsey Orchestra, which he joined in 1978. After a year on the road Tim returned to Boston leading his own bands, finishing his Bachelors Degree in Performance @ Berklee, recording and performing with many artists including Miroslav Vitous, John Scofield, Jack Wilkins, Buddy Defranco and Bob Mover. In 1980 following his six years in Boston he moved to New York City and for 26 years has offered his experience, knowledge and skills as one of New York's in demand jazz drummers and has traveled extensively in the US, Europe, the Balkans, Asia, North and South America with some of the world's greatest jazz talents, performing concerts, clubs, recordings, teaching and master classes.
