What you'll learn in this interior design course:

Interior design projects may involve totally new construction or the renovation, modernization, or refurbishment of an existing facility, space, or room. This course is intended for people who are considering a career in interior design. It provides a broad introduction to the profession and an overview of the education and requisite skills. The emphasis of this course is residential, a branch of interior design that typically includes specialties such as kitchens, bathrooms, home offices and custom furniture. Through class discussions and select residential projects, students explore a variety of essential design topics such as; the principles and elements of design, the use and application of color, space planning standards, and assembling furniture, materials, surfaces, textures, and color schemes. Key residential design resources such as manufacturers, showrooms, and suppliers are explored. Students shall be provided with details regarding the purchase of required drawing materials and supplies at the beginning of the course. Online learning students will participate in active discussions with their fellow students and the instructor. Online learning students will need access to a computer (with audio capability such as speakers or headphones), scanner, and digital camera. Student projects are assembled in either PowerPoint (Windows operating system) or Keynote (Mac operating system) format. 

How do the LIVE VIA ZOOM online courses work?

  • Structure: Students interact live their instructor and fellow classmates during their scheduled sessions via zoom. Some courses include assignments for students to complete between sessions which may have due dates that require course participation during the week. In some courses, projects and visual presentations may be required.
  • Schedule: Please check the course description for exact course dates and times. Students must log into the zoom meeting to attend their scheduled session but do not need a zoom account. Instructors often record course meetings, if you know you are going to miss a session, please let your instructor know ahead of time.
  • Time commitment: The time that you spend working on your online course will vary based on the number of assignments. 

How do the asynchronous self-paced online courses work?

  • Structure: There are video lectures and learning tutorials to watch each week, and one required weekly assignment to complete and post. Additionally, students interact with each other in the discussion forums where they respond to questions and each other’s work. Students have some flexibility on a weekly basis in terms of completing their studies. Students should expect due dates for assignments which require participation in the online course throughout the week.
  • Schedule: Courses are set up to run weekly. Check the course description for exact course dates and duration. Students typically have several due dates per week where they participate in a discussion forum and submit an assignment.
  • Time commitment: The time that you spend working on your online course will vary, based on completion of 6 assignments.
  • Relationship building: There are many ways in which students interact with their instructor and peers. Students discuss topics in the discussion board, where their instructor and peers provide insight, guidance, and feedback. Students and the instructor can also communicate through private assignment correspondence within the course site. The instructor also provides screen-capture video feedback on some assignments.

Additionally, students interact with each other in the discussion forums where they respond to questions. Students have flexibility in terms of completing their studies. Students should expect due dates for assignments which require participation in the online course throughout the week.

  • Time commitment: The time that you spend working on your online course will vary based on the number of assignments. 
  • Relationship building: There are lots of ways in which students interact with their instructor and peers. Students discuss topics in the discussion board, where their instructor and peers provide insight, guidance, and feedback. Students and the instructor also communicate through private assignment correspondence within the course site or via e-mail. Sometimes instructors arrange for a class chat, either using a conference call or an instant message system.

  • Students for Self-Paced classes will work at their own time availability.
  • Date Posted is the start and end date. Students will have access to this Online Learning at any time within the specified period.

Remote Learning

This course is available for "remote" learning and will be available to anyone with access to an internet device with a microphone (this includes most models of computers, tablets). Classes will take place with a "Live" instructor at the date/times listed below.

Upon registration, the instructor will send along additional information about how to log-on and participate in the class.

School Notes:
As an academic institution of higher learning, NYSID cannot put a Purchaser’s name (or contact information) in the Student field if they are not the student taking the course. Before booking this class, please make sure you are the Student attending the course and are using your Student information on both the Purchaser and Student field in the enrollment details. Please note enrollments not having the Student information on both fields will have to be canceled/not accepted.

Refund Policy

Refunds (less 5% cancellation fee) must be requested at least 6 business days prior to the first session or no refund is permissible.

Fees are nontransferable. Registration and technology fees (applied to credit-bearing courses) are nonrefundable, and a drop fee applies to dropped credit‐bearing courses resulting in a refund.

There are absolutely no exceptions to this policy.

In any event where a customer wants to cancel their enrollment and is eligible for a full refund, a 5% processing fee will be deducted from the refund amount.

I'm confused about the length and number of sessions - how many pre-recorded lectures will we get for the class session running Mon 6/17 - Mon 7/22? Elsewhere in the description is describes summer classes as running for 8 weeks.
