Michael Macioce has been practicing photography from his studio in Manhattan’s East Village since 1982. A graduate of School of Visual Arts, he began combining fine art and documentary photography of the downtown music and art scene leading to over 50 album covers and culminating with the book LIGHT & DARK. From John Zorn to Matisyahu, his access to the Lower East Side culture meant he had the opportunity to photograph many artists at the beginning of their careers.

Beginning in 1994, Michael began teaching at Parsons School of Design and has taught photography at The New School for Social Research and The School of Visual Arts. Michael is a teacher and a founder of the Hamilton Heights Darkroom.
