Anna Slocum

Teaches at M Avery Designs

Anna Slocum has been sewing since the age of 10. Her mother taught her to sew and read patterns. In high school, she would make her costumes for the plays and that started her love of theater. She went to college at SUNY Fredonia in western NY and studied production design specifically costume design.

While at school, she completed two summer internships at the Santa Fe Opera in NM working in the costume school during the day and running the shows at night.

After graduating college with a BFA in Production Design she moved to NYC and started working in a costume shop as a first hand.

She currently works at John Kristiansen NY Inc. as a first hand. The shop creates costumes for various forms of entertainment. Some notable productions are: The Great Comet (Broadway), Waitress (Broadway and Tour), The Get Down (Netflix), Marvel Universe Live (Arena show), and many others.

She lives in Jersey City with her husband and spends most of her free time working on various sewing projects. She is very excited to spread her love of sewing and teach others to love it as well!
