Amy Lemaire & Ian Burns

Amy Lemaire approaches glass with a formal background in painting and drawing, using this framework within which glass is considered as a sculptural material. She received a BFA degree in painting from School of the Art Institute of Chicago in 2000 and an MFA degree from Pratt Institute in 2010, also in painting.  She has been working with glass since 1997, and is primarily self-taught, with a focus on flameworking. Lemaire is the Director of the Bead Project at UrbanGlass in Brooklyn, NY, and is also Adjunct Faculty in the Glass Art Program at Salem Community College in Salem, NJ. She has taught at many schools around the country including Penland School of Crafts in NC and Lillstreet Art Center in Chicago. She exhibits her work nationally, and has shown at SOFA New York, SOFA Chicago, Bijoux at the Norton Museum (FL), Glass Weekend (NJ). Lemaire was a 2015 resident artist at the Museum of Arts and Design in NYC as a part of the Artists’ Studios Program, and the recipient of a 2015 CGCA Flexible Fellowship at Wheaton Arts.

Ian Burns’ practice critiques the growing technological realm in works that provoke curiosity, empathy and humor through investigations of spectacle, humor and inventiveness that reveal subtle lines between the ridiculous and the poetic.

Burns’ work has been widely exhibited internationally. His work has been the subject of solo exhibitions across Europe, the USA and Australia, and has been featured in recent major museum exhibitions at the The Museum of Contemporary Art, Australia, the Sharjah Calligraphy Biennial, the MMCA in Seoul, South Korea, and the Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art, Belgium.. In 2013 he was an invited Artist-in-Residence at Pilchuck Glass Art School.
