Alexandra Shytsman is a NYC-based blogger, food photographer and recipe developer. Obsessed with food and cooking from a young age, she started writing a blog during her sophomore year of college when a particularly slow semester left her with more free time than she preferred. In 2015, she completed Natural Gourmet Institute’s “Writing for Food Media” Certificate Program with Dawn Perry, former Senior Editor at Bon Appetit magazine. This was a great course for beginners or entry-level food photographers. I liked that the class incorporated technical camera details with food styling. I do wish we could have practiced with our own cameras and workshopped a bit of what we learned. It would have been better to have a full day.

The instructor was engaging, very knowledgeable, and got through a ton of material very quickly and without losing us along the way. Her handouts and visuals were useful. I particularly liked how tailored the course was to the realities of living in New York. You will be doing this kind of photography at home and your home probably has one good window that is nowhere near your kitchen. She was very helpful in ways to get around that. Highly recommend!
