Anna Garano

Anna Garano completed her musical education and achieved a “Diploma in Chitarra”, at the Conservatorio Tartini of Trieste (Italy), studying with Bruno Tonazzi and Pierluigi Corona. She also received the Laurea in Storia della Musica, at the faculty of Literature and Philosophy, University of Trieste, specializing in contemporary music, at the same time discovered and studied Indian and Arabic music, at the International Institute of Comparate Music of Venezia, where she attended many workshops and masterclasses. In 1992 she went to Andalusia (Spain) in order to study Flamenco guitar; a study that she continued for many years under the guide of many masters, such as Paco Serrano, Manolo Franco, Manolo Sanlucar and Paco Peña at the Rotterdam Conservatorium. She started at a very young age giving concerts with various small chamber ensembles; the guitar duo, flute and guitar duo, the guitar quartet, the trio viola flute and guitar. In Holland, she started composing and playing her own music in World music ensembles, working with musicians of different backgrounds. Among them, the band Menousis, with an Indian flautist and a tabla player. In 1999 she created a Flamenco band called Por los Caminos Flamencos with which she still performs in Italy and abroad. Anna Garano performs solo recitals and has recorded for the Rai (Italian radio) and for Radio Capodistria (Slovenia); for these stations she has also produced many didactical musical programs. In 2004 she recorded the CD Sombra with the doublebass player Massimiliano Forza; a CD containing mainly original music composed by Anna Garano and Massimiliano Forza. In 2007 she composed and recorded a CD entitled Come il re di un Paese Piovoso, with lyrics from Verlaine, Baudelaire and the Swiss poet Philippe Jaccottet; a work written for the trio with the singer Alessandra Chiurco and the trumpet player Flavio Davanzo. In 2008 she created the band Life is Elsewhere, with the Armenian singer Karina Oganjan and the Slovenian percussionist Blaz Celarec, performing Armenian, Yiddish and Sephardic music arranged in a Flamenco influenced way. Since 2010, she has been performing as a duo with improviser and avant-garde singer Alessandra Franco, and recorded the CD Gioco a Nascondere in 2011. In 2012 she started a collaboration with the New York based singer Anais Alexandra Tekerian, performing Flamenco arranged music from different countries.
