What you'll learn in this writing class:

Learn all the elements of a book proposal, supply you with a template for a proposal, and provide you with individual feedback on your book idea and the steps you should take next.

If you have a great idea for a nonfiction book, the first step isn’t to create a complete manuscript. It’s to craft a book proposal that clearly describes your concept, why it’ll be compelling to a large number of readers, the ways in which you’d promote it to those readers, and how you’d flesh it out in book form.

This is true for _all_ nonfiction books — memoirs, biographies, journalistic exposes, corporate histories, humor, self-help, and thousands of other categories.

Publishers demand proposals rather than full manuscripts because proposals are quicker to read, provide key market information, and give editors the freedom to ask for changes without your being “locked into” a finished book.

Even if you end up self-publishing, you’ll benefit from creating a proposal for your book, because — like a business plan — it’ll ensure that you’ve thought through the creative and business aspects of making a product that a people will want.

This class is open to all students. No experience required.
