What you'll learn in this nonfiction writing course:

Feature articles are the human side of journalism, pieces that go beyond the facts, exploring the world in a personal and compelling way. Such articles can examine virtually any topic, from the latest news to the newest trends to profiles of interesting people. And they can even grow into narrative nonfiction books.
To succeed at features, you need a reporter’s eye for detail, a storyteller’s flair, and the curiosity of a cat. Here you’ll learn about the various types of features and their special requirements, as well as writing craft and how to market your work.
Whether you seek to write stories drawn from serious news or the lighter side of life, we’ll show you how to devise articles that grab a reader’s attention.

Feature articles are fact-based journalistic pieces. Reporting, research and interviewing is essential.

This course gives you a firm grounding in the basics of article writing craft and gets you writing a feature article (or two).

Course components:

Article Writing Level 1: 10 Week Workshop
Reviewed by Anonymous on 12/19/2019
Instructor (Lara) was very knowledgeable on article writing, approachable with questions/concerns, and very supportive. The exercises and homework were also super helpful in my learning and I did not feel like they were too much or too little. The workload was manageable and allowed me to put into practice what we had learned. I was also challenged to go outside of my comfort zone and push myself in my writing. I feel like I have a better foundation of how to write feature articles and really appreciate Lara's teaching style. The class length from 7-10 was really the only downside as it was difficult to make it to every session. I would absolutely recommend this course to anyone interested in article writing, especially feature stories. Thank you Lara!
