Description

What you'll learn in this construction training:

This course must be provided to all employees in the construction industry in the confines of New York City, New York City Department of Building regulates this by rule under the city’s administrative law. This course must be taken every 4 years after completing the initial 32 hour course. The course was instituted by NYC as a result of both OSHA’s Fatality reports and fatalities and injuries that have occurred in NYC. Local Law 52, was established to train experienced workers who will erect, dismantle modify or repair supported scaffolds over 40 feet.

The goal of this course is to help participants realize that the use of scaffold is an important part of worker safety and that Fall Protection, Struck- By and electrocution, and collapse are common hazards related to workers that use scaffold. This course will train workers on the safe and proper installation, removal and modifications as is related to scaffolding. Upon completion, students will receive a photo ID card, valid for 4 years.

Audience:
This course is required by the New York City Department of Buildings for anyone installing or removing scaffolds in New York City and that has completed the NYC DOB 32 Hour Supported Scaffold Supervisor within the past 4 years.

Prerequisites:
Student must be able to communicate with the instructor in the language the course is held in. Student must have completed the NYC DOB 32 Hour Supported Scaffold Supervisor course within the past 4 years. Valid picture ID required. *Please note that this is a refresher course meaning that it is NOT to be used as an initial course. Students are required to have taken the initial course, which is the 32 Hour Supported Scaffold Supervisor course, before taking this refresher. Students MUST provide a copy of their initial or refresher card either by email or in person prior to taking this refresher course.

Materials:
Course handouts, test, videos, PowerPoint presentations, instructor evaluation sheet, attendance sign-in sheets. 
*Please note: Administrative fees, course materials, and certificates are included in the course fee. Extra booklets, certificate replacements, and the mailing out of certificates are available for an additional fee.

Methods of Instruction:
A combination of lectures, PowerPoint presentations, open discussions, hands-on activities, and testing will be used throughout this course.

Learning Outcomes:
At the end of this course, the students shall be able to:
  • Identify why scaffold accidents lead to new rules for users of scaffolds in NYC.
  • List the new rules or procedures that were put in place as a result of fatal accidents.
  • Understand the importance of notification of scaffold accidents and follow the procedure in case of a scaffold accident in the City of New York.
  • Comprehend and recognize each of the focus four hazards and have the knowledge and ability to demonstrate how to correct with controls and/or other means of protection as well as properly handling, hoisting, and storing material.
  • Use knowledge of focus four hazards to demonstrate how to correct with controls and/or other means of protection as related to the use of power and hand tools as well as ladders and scaffolds on the job site.
  • Understand the limitations of the PPE used and comprehend the responsibility that both the employer and employee have as is related to the PPE to be used.
  • Recall rules related to the use of scaffolds as per NYC BC Codes and OSHA standards.
  • Recognize Supported Scaffold Rule and Codes and cite codes related to scaffold use.
  • Comprehend the rigging principals as they relate to scaffolding erection and recall the rules related in erecting scaffold both as per design and in a safe manner.
  • Erect scaffolds based on the understanding of rules related to the safe and complaint erection of supported scaffold.Review supported scaffolds and make corrections that are needed.
  • Decipher design drawings to verify that they meet requirements for inspection and inspect Supported Scaffolds to determine any deficiencies.
  • Identify rules related to the log books related to supported scaffolds.
  • Comprehend and recall standards related to fall protection while working on supported scaffolds and use of support scaffolds.
  • Recall from memory the different types of supported scaffolds, the standards related to each type of scaffold, and the rules related to the installation, removal, and use of scaffolds.
  • Identify hazards related to electrical use when on scaffolds.
Successful Completion:
In order to successfully fulfill the requirements for completion of the 8 Hour Supported Scaffold Supervisor course, students must:
  • Be able to clearly communicate with the instructor and complete all paperwork in the language the course is delivered in. No personal interpreters permitted.
  • Complete all required paperwork: registration, evaluation, attendance, etc.
  • Attend all required hours of the course. Any make up sessions must be completed within six months from the start date.
  • Participate during class activities and reviews
  • Complete tests with a passing grade of 70%
No exceptions will be made. No partial credit awarded for any course.

Refund Policy

  • In order to cancel the booking you must contact us 8 business days in advance to be able to receive a full refund less 5% cancellation fee.
  • Every student who contacted us after this period will not be eligible for a refund and will have 6 months to use a paid deposit.

If the school cancels a course, students will receive a full refund.

In any event where a customer wants to cancel their enrollment and is eligible for a full refund, a 5% processing fee will be deducted from the refund amount.
