Construction Project Scheduling

The course will be divided into two parts. The first half, the students will be instructed construction planning and scheduling in Critical Path Method (CPM) of scheduling techniques. It will also cover Arrow Diagramming Method (ADM) and Precedence Diagramming Method (PDM), development of baseline schedule, work breakdown structures (WBS), project resources and resource leveling, resource and cost loaded baseline schedule, schedule updating, date, constraints, logical relationship, activity duration estimating and contractor narrative report as per contract scheduling specifications and contract requirements.

The second half will instruct the students the concept of Project Controls and prepare them to become a Client or Consultant Project Controls Specialist. It will cover reviewing and analyzing Contractor detailed baseline schedule for acceptance as per contract requirements, reviewing and analyzing Contractor Monthly CPM update, providing schedule analysis report (SAR) and preparing time impact analysis (TIA). The course will be conducted in a lab using P6, Primavera Web-based project management tool.

PROGRAM TOPICS

• Establish detailed construction baseline schedule as per contract requirements
• Be able to develop Work Breakdown Structures (WBS) and schedules for a variety of construction projects
• Become proficient in developing Critical Path Method (CPM) logic diagrams
• Understand the use of date constraints, activity coding, multiple calendars and other scheduling concepts
• Understand project resources, resource requirements and the cost loading of schedules
• Have a working knowledge of Primavera Project Management (P6) software for use in a construction environment
• Be able to analyze Contractor detailed baseline schedule as a Client or Consultant Representative
• Be able to provide schedule analysis report (SAR), analyze construction delays and claims
