What you'll learn in this construction training:

This Course equals 1.4 CEUs

Prerequisites: There are no prerequisites needed to attend this course. Students must be able to verbally communicate with instructor in primary language of the training.

Audience: This training is geared for construction workers performing work from suspended scaffolds in NYC. These training needs would apply particularly to new employees with no experience and workers that never attended scaffold safety training. This training is also beneficial for supervisors, project managers, or individuals licensed as Site Safety Managers (SSM), Site Safety Coordinators (SSC) and Superintendents. 

Course Description
As per 3314.4.5.3 of the 2014 NYC Construction Codes, this 32-Hour Suspended Scaffold Supervisor course is required by the New York City Department of Buildings (DOB) to supervise suspended scaffold projects on construction sites in New York City. Training will include instruction on how to visually inspect suspended scaffold equipment, identify basic scaffold components, and execute safe assembly and disassembly of the equipment. Students are required to participate in all class exercises, which shall include use of various types of suspended scaffolding and rigging operations. 

Upon successful completion of the course, participants will receive a 16 HR User Suspended Scaffold course completion picture ID that will be valid for 4 years.

Learning Outcome
Upon completion of this course, the student will be able to: 
  • Identify suspended scaffold systems and their essential components. 
  • Discuss common suspended scaffold hazards based on statistical and historical data provided. 
  • Outline differences between OSHA and NYC DOB scaffold regulations and their sources. 
  • Demonstrate skills that are necessary to assemble Personal Fall Arrest Systems used on suspended scaffolds. 
  • Apply various applications & connection techniques using ropes, knots & hitches . 
  • Assemble the block and tackle for a fiber rope light duty scaffold. 
  • Construct the wire rope termination for hoisting rope on suspended scaffolds. 
Methods of Instruction: This course consists of several different components which include power point presentations, lecture, real life case studies, class discussion and hands on demonstration.

Completion Requirements

Students are required to complete 100% of the course and actively participate in all learning activities including hands-on demonstrations and score 70% or higher on the course final exam to receive course completion materials. Students who do not pass the written or practical exam will have one opportunity to retake the entire 16 hour course and retake the exam at reduced fee of $150. Students who do not pass the exam are not eligible for a refund.

Hands-on assessment will be made by instructor to determine if each student is capable of applying rope knots, terminating wire rope, building a block and tackle system, and operating scaffold hoist motor.

Make-up time is not permitted for this training course. Should students miss any portion of the training, it is the student’s responsibility to contact TSCTA to arrange to attend another scheduled event.

Cancellation
TSCTA reserves the right to cancel or reschedule classes at any time. If a course is cancelled at the request of TSCTA, after the student has registered, TSCTA will notify CH of the change and advise that the client is eligible to be rescheduled to another event or entitled to a full refund. It is the responsibility of CH to contact the student to reschedule and/or process the refund. 

Should TSCTA cancel or reschedule a class due to weather or unforeseen circumstances beyond the control of TSCTA, the client is entitled to a full refund; however TSCTA is not responsible for travel arrangements, travel fees, or any expenses incurred by you as a result of such cancellation. 

Should the client no longer be interested in attending training, they should be directed to contact CH who will review the request in line w/ TSCTA’s cancellation policy. Assuming it is within the required 3 business days’ notice and/or the client has not previously cancelled a registration w/o providing the required notice, they should be eligible for a full refund. 

Cancellation requests received 1 to 3 business days prior to the course date will result in a credit toward attendance at a future scheduled course taking place within 12 months of the original class date. If the credit is not used within this 12 month period, the entire fee will be forfeited. 

If a client is attending a course they no longer need or qualify for, should they make such claim at the start of training, no later than the lunch break, they will be eligible for a full refund. 

Substitutions of attendee may be made at any time prior to the first day of training. Client will have to notify CH of the substitute students contact information. 


Refund 
Registrations must be submitted at least 3 business days prior to the class start date. Registrations submitted less than 3 days prior to the start of any class will not be eligible for a refund; however a credit will be issued on file. 

Refund requests for students that do not comprehend the course language will not be accepted unless 3 business days’ notice is provided.  

All refunds will be approved and processed through CH.  


No show/missed attendance  
For students who do not attend their registered course, CH may reschedule the client, free of charge, one time only. Should the student fail to attend the rescheduled date as well, a 50% deposit will be retained and the remainder of payment will be saved as a credit on file for up to 1 year.
