Pulitzer Prize-winning author Jennifer Egan introduces this outdoor screening of Elia Kazan’s 1954 classic On the Waterfront (108 min). Egan’s latest novel, historical noir thriller Manhattan Beach, and On the Waterfront, which stars Marlon Brando as brooding dock worker Terry Malloy, both traverse the crime-ridden underworld of New York City’s shipyards in the 1940s.

Examine how On the Waterfront and Manhattan Beach intertwine and what they reveal about corruption, morality, and the experience of work.
