Class Description

Description

What you'll learn in this other dance class:

Do you want to get a solid grounding in the basics? Or take some time to really work on your form? You’ll come away from this course with a set of exercises you can do at home without annoying your neighbors. In class, there will be lots of drills to get your muscles used to the movements of flatfooting. And, of course, great music and nice people to dance with!

The first hour features warmups and drills designed to strengthen the specific muscles used in clogging and to develop your repertoire of steps.

Everyone who comes to the first hour is welcome to stay for the second hour where you'll learn how to improvise with those steps, and use them in choreographed group dances. Classes often conclude with square dancing with footwork.

We offer the option of coming to just one hour of the two-hour class for your scheduling convenience, but please note that only advanced students should consider skipping the first hour.

Although the class is usually attended by adults, children who can focus on the instruction for the duration of a class are indeed welcome.

Footwear
Clogging is a percussive dance form. The sounds you make with your feet become part of the musical experience, so it is best to wear tap shoes for classes with the City Stompers. But if you don’t have taps yet, you can wear leather soled shoes. They should be comfortable, well fitting and low heeled. The sole should be smooth and not grip the floor, so running shoes and any other kind of rubber soled shoes would not be appropriate.

We have several pairs of tap shoes at the studio in various men’s and women’s sizes. If we happen to have your size, you are welcome to borrow shoes when you come to dance with us.

Refund Policy

  • Single class: No refund.
  • Group classes: Can be taken at any time during the year. If all classes paid for are not taken in one term, credit for remaining classes will be carried forward to the next term. If there are extenuating circumstances a pro-rated refund may be offered.
In the event that an instructor or the school needs to cancel at the last minute, students will receive a refund less a 5% non-refundable registration fee.
