What you'll learn in this scene study class:
Admissions Qualifications:
Successful candidates must participate in and pass an audition before registering for this program. Please schedule your audition at the "Request Info" submission above. All registrations are subject to approval by The Primary Stages Einhorn School of Performing Arts.
This class offers a select group of actors an even more rigorous curriculum than our regular Scene Study class. Over ten weeks, you will work in pairs on contemporary material, challenging yourself as an artist and as a scene partner. Through this, you’ll identify your strengths and weaknesses as a performer, and leave this class with a deeper insight into your craft.
This class might be for you if you:

This class offers a select group of actors an even more rigorous curriculum than our regular Scene Study class. Over ten weeks, you will work in pairs on contemporary material, challenging yourself as an artist and as a scene partner. Through this, you’ll identify your strengths and weaknesses as a performer, and leave this class with a deeper insight into your craft.
This class might be for you if you:
- Are a serious actor looking for an even more rigorous curriculum than our regular Scene Study class.
- Are able to commit a minimum of 1-2 hours of rehearsal time outside of class each week, be off-book, and show up for your classmates as an invested and responsible scene partner.
- Have been invited, or placed by audition, into the class.
- Be on your feet every week, working with a partner and receiving individualized attention from Geoffrey, thanks to the small class size.
- Follow Geoffrey's common-sense approach to acting that focuses on what you the actor are in control of (instead of being distracted by what you cannot control).
- Learn to ask the right questions and make bold choices in order to tackle the linguistic and stylistic demands of great classical, modern, and contemporary texts, including those by Strindberg, Ibsen, Chekhov, Baitz, Letts, Miller, Williams, Shepard, Mamet, Pinter, Nottage, Simon, Albee, Shanley, and others.
- Be seen in your final class by a prominent NYC director or casting agent, who will provide invaluable insight and feedback.
- Know how to set yourself up to win and do all the preparation necessary for inspiration to do its thing.
- Be eligible for consideration for Advanced Scene Study 2.
Refund Policy
- If a student withdraws from a class prior to 11 business days before the class' start date, the $50 deposit will act as a cancellation fee.
- If a student withdraws from a class within the 7-11 business days prior to the class' start date, the student is required to pay 50% of the tuition.
- If a student withdraws from a class on or after 6 business days prior to the class' start date, the student is required to pay 100% of the tuition.
