Class Description

Description

What you'll learn in this spirituality class:

Welcome, Tarot 101 is for everyone. If you know a lot about Tarot and are looking to deepen your practice, if you are new to the world of Tarot and feel curious and maybe a bit skeptical, or if you fall somewhere in the middle this class is for you. Thank you for being ready to engage with this work and look inward.

There are many approaches to Tarot. I see Tarot as a tool which we can use to tap into our personal intuition and move into a space of creativity. I believe that you already have the answers you are seeking, but readings and work with the Tarot can help bring these answers to the surface.

Throughout the class we will lean into learning an approach that is intuitive and based on visual inquiry. Together we will create an approach which is rooted in the history of the tarot but catered to your knowing. Through visual inquiry and discussion we will dive deeply into messages from the Tarot.

This method is based on active learning & the class will be about 40 percent lecture, ten percent sharing, and fifty percent discussion and collecting gazing. It is my firm belief that whoever is doing the talking is doing the learning. This class relies on progressive educational techniques that reach students with a range of learning variations.

In this class we will collaboratively attend to the information each student is seeking to explore. This is called emergent learning. Overarching themes such as slowing down, tuning in, and active listening will be emphasized. Additionally we will learn about the history of Tarot, the anatomy of the deck, commonly accepted meanings in the Major Arcana, commonly used spreads, and different ways we can use the Tarot in our practices. We will touch on the relationship between Tarot and practices such as symbolism, Kabbalah, and Reiki. In the second half of the class we will engage in a practical experience to ensure that you feel comfortable applying what we have considered in your own practice.

About the Instructor:

I have a BFA is Fine Art and a Masters in Museum Education. I see Tarot as a tool which we can use to tap into our knowing. I believe that you already have the answers you are seeking, but the Tarot can help bring these answers to the surface. My approach is collaborative and uses visual inquiry and discussion to dive deeply into messages from the Tarot and our individual intuition.

Virtual Class FAQ

What will be included in my Virtual Class package?

One ticket includes an access link to your live, online class. The class will be delivered via web conferencing software and feature a live, professional instructor who will walk you through a lesson as described above. You will have the opportunity to ask questions as well as participate from home.

How many people is my purchase good for?

Each ticket is good for one "device" (i.e. one computer, phone, tablet, etc. you'll be logging in from). This ensures we don't get more people in the class than the instructor can handle. Though we understand some people live together and will be working/learning together, the intent is that each class still allows for the same attention to attendees as if students purchased separately. Please be respectful of this!

Will I need anything from home to use in the class?

You will need a reliable Internet connection as well as a computer or device with which you can access your virtual class. We recommend you arrive to class 5-10 minutes early to ensure you're able to set up your device and connection. Additionally, if the class is more than just a lecture you will likely want any materials listed in the course description as "Materials Needed to Participate Fully", though you're welcome to purchase a seat and sit in and just watch.

Am I able to ask questions or interact with the class?

Yes, you'll both be able to ask questions using the chat function in the video hosting software as well as at certain intervals during the class via voice/audio. If the class winds up being on the smaller side, more spontaneous interaction/questions will be encouraged.

Do I have to show my video or speak during class?

While we recommend you do show your video and speak when encouraged to by the instructor, video and audio participation are never mandatory. We find classes have more fun experiences when people are engaging with one another, but understand not everyone will want to do so and that's ok!

Refund Policy

Students may cancel at any time before the day of the class and receive a full refund.

In any event where a customer wants to cancel their enrollment and is eligible for a full refund, a 5% processing fee will be deducted from the refund amount.

In the event that an instructor or the school needs to cancel at the last minute, students will receive a refund less a 5% non-refundable registration fee.

While the time devoted to political correctness, the teacher’s personal story and discussion of how and what people wanted to learn was nice and would have been perfect for a semester long college course. However, it felt like it took up more of the class time than content on tarot. Also, it did not seem like the entire class fully understood topics like identifying personal pronouns or the concept of occupying stolen land and there certainly wasn’t enough time to explain those topics when there wasn’t even time to learn each other’s names. I really wanted to leave the class with a basic idea of how to do a tarot reading so I could practice and I left feeling disappointed as I hadn’t learned anything of the sort. I feel like that goal (if indeed that was the intended purpose of the class) could have been better accomplished if the teacher had done a sample reading of the major arcana with the students participating by giving explanations of when the cards they were told to study popped up. The teacher was clearly extremely well versed and knowledgeable so it seemed like a shame to leave the class without feeling like I had gained any usable knowledge.

i Liked your class. I hope tarot 102 will go through how to intrepet all the cards.. I have a tarot book. and its somewhat makes sence, but you give a little extra. so I enjoyed the class, and I am now going to practice and write down all my impressions. I also have to figure out how to ask the questions more clearly. I realize I cannot be vague in the question.

Had a lot of fun! The zoom group was interactive and it made the class interesting. I enjoyed learning about the long history of tarot- who knew??! I would have loved to have seen an actual reading, but I can follow up with the instructor and do that privately.

The teacher was very nice and knowledgeable but the content of the course was not specific enough for what I wanted to learn ie learning the individual cards in the deck was what I would have preferred but then we would have needed a longer class

The class was very easy to follow, instructional but not boring. My favorite part was learning the history of the tarot and the symbolism behind the original Arcana imagery. I walked away much more comfortable with how to use tarot cards.

To make the short seminar efficient, I would suggest that Ms. Koontz provide us with the ground rules for the meeting and keep it going. There is also no need to talk about he/she pronouns in this space.

Leah’s class was great, she made a genuine effort to create an inclusive space and I love that participants were encouraged to find the right tarot deck. We weren’t limited to the standard SRW deck or symbolism. Am looking forward to 102.

Leah’s class was amazing. She is sensitive to including everyone and meeting their individual needs, while answering questions and giving information. It felt very warm and safe and welcoming. My only complaint is that it seems too short... I would love the class to be longer!

The Instructor is extremely knowledgeable & sweet. She was able to provided an environment where we can learn about the history of tarot but, also explore the hidden symbolism. Our participation was also requested in order to absorb the information and answer any questions. Thank you for such a lovely experience.

Question from Nancy
What is Leah Koontz’s background with Tarot?
Answer from Leah K.
1/2 My approach to Tarot is intuitive and based in visual inquiry. These methods (which are partially unique and partially popular in this moment) are heavily based in my background as an artist, educator, and museum professional. I have a BFA in fine art and an Ms.Ed in Museum Education.
Answer from Leah K.
2/2 I also utilize skills I have learned in my spiritual and professional studies. I attended a Jewish seminary in Tzfat Israel for six months where I learned Kaballah and religious studies. Additionally I have studied Reiki and Tarot at Neon Calling and with Jessica Dore.
Answer from Leah K.
I have had my tarot read by amazing Tarot professionals and engaged in a self taught practice. Many of the resources I used/use in my My Tarot specific education (as well as interwoven and associated practices such as Reiki, meditation, spiritualism, Kabbalah, other forms of divination, and the occult) are included in the learning extension resource list provided to all students after 101!
