Throughout ancestral times, indigenous communities have used food for healing. Rita and Tonita will be sharing this wisdom from their elders and ancestors. In Curanderismo, illnesses are called imbalances in the body. Imbalances are diagnosed by how an emotion affects bodily organs, and foods are used to heal them.
In this class, we will prepare, sample, and learn about traditional recipes for juicing and cooking, and explore the medicinal uses of leaves and peelings of fruits and vegetables such as nopal, (the cactus leaf used to regulate glucose in diabetics) or Atole (ground corn used to absorb toxins in the body).
Note: A materials fee of $25 is to be paid to the instructor for the Indigenous Foods Workbook (with recipes).
Required Materials: Please bring two fresh food items.
