What you'll learn in this health class:

It is no secret that proper nourishment can be a powerful aid to the healing process. In the Food Therapy Certificate Program, students will learn about whole systems biology, core nutritional imbalances, and how to translate a dietary prescription into practical meal planning and preparation.

Students will also gain an understanding of how specific diets and cooking techniques relate to different illnesses. Led by professionally trained health-supportive chefs, along with experts in whole foods nutrition, functional medicine and clinical nutrition and dietetics, the course will consist of lectures, case study discussions and kitchen lab sessions.

COURSEWORK
  • Exploring the differences between "illness" and "disease"
  • Understanding the principles of culinary translation
  • Common issues of chronic disease - genetics, environment and diet
  • Working through the relationship between food and health
  • Cooking concerns for people with cancer, immune disorders, diabetes, inflammation and other illnesses
  • Menu planning for people with illnesses
  • Developing culinary strategies that support well-being and healing
This certificate program is offered for personal enrichment only.

School Notes: NGI is open weekdays 8:30 a.m.-10 p.m. After 5:00 p.m. and on weekends, you must enter 200# onto the keypad just right of the glass doors to be buzzed into the building. Please take the elevator to the 2nd floor and check in at the front desk.

Refund Policy
For single-session events or classes, students cancelling up to 48 hours before the start time are eligible for a refund (less a 10% processing fee) or a credit voucher (100% of purchase price). All refunds are subject to a 10% processing fee, up to $50 per class per person.*

For multi-day or full-day events or classes, students must cancel one week (7 days) before the start of the first class in the series to receive a refund (less a 10% processing fee) or a credit voucher (100% of purchase price). Cancelling after the cut off, withdrawing, or failing to attend results in forfeiting the full amount of the class or event fee. Students may send someone else to participate in the event or receive materials.
