In this level, students acquire the ability to understand and participate in conversations at normal speed about simple topics and current events. The grammatical structure becomes a little more complex and students will improve their reading and comprehension skill through articles of magazines and newspapers. Written homework will be asked in every session.
This course is for people who have finished the entire Basic Level, have a good grasp of pronunciation, grammar and sentence patterns, and have the basic competence of the Portuguese language through speaking, reading and writing.
Course requirements: Students must have completed Basic Portuguese Levels 1-3 and have command of the Present Indicative, Preterite Indicative and Immediate Future.
Methodology: In our communicative method, classes are 60% conversation and 40% grammar. The course will rely on a textbook, handouts and exercises supplemented with music to emphasize certain points and distinctions.
Evaluation: Students will be evaluated on their ability to communicate, interact and properly use the language. There will be a written and oral final evaluation. Active participation is essential for the mastering of communication in this language and participation will be part of the overall evaluation.
Finding the Right Level:
As students progress from Beginner to Intermediate to Advanced levels, their progress is noticeable in communicating with native Portuguese speakers. Each level has 10 classes as defined below. At the end of each complete level, students who qualify receive a Certificate of Completion.
