Description
What you'll learn in this wine tasting class:
Explore the rich history of South African wines and viticulture—from the arrival of the Dutch in 1652 to the most recent wave of young winemakers coming onto the scene. We’ll taste our way through the different regions of the Western Cape and discover how these world-class wines are produced.
Classes are 2 hours long, including a Q&A with Astor Center Instructor, Jim Clarke.
What you can expect:
- 1 Welcome wine
- 6 Tasting pours of South African Wines
- Palate-cleansing bread and cheese
- A 20% discount on all wines tasted to use in-store after class
What you will learn:
- The history of viticulture in South Africa and how it went from refreshing passing sailors to creating world-class wines
- How and why South Africa developed a diverse set of grape varietals
- How the diverse landscape and growing conditions of the Western Cape shape their wines
- An understanding of South Africa’s unique place in the greater world of wine

All class purchases are non-refundable.
Class reservations can be exchanged up to 72 hours prior to the date of the class for another class of equal or lesser value. Classes may also be transferred to another attendee by emailing [email protected] 24 hours before the start of the class.
In any event where a customer wants to cancel their enrollment and is eligible for a full refund, a 5% processing fee will be deducted from the refund amount.
